Shabbat at Hooverwood On Friday, Dec. 27, 5 p.m., the Social Action Committee of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation invites the community to perform a special Shabbat mitzvah. All you have to do is sit next to one of the Hooverwood senior residents during Shabbat dinner and enjoy their company. Talk with them, share dinner with them, and help repair the world (tikkun olam) with this one good act. This is the final monthly event of 2002. If you are unable to make this event, upcoming Shabbats at Hooverwood will take place on January 24, February 28, March 28, and April 25. If you have the time to spare, call Brickette Solgan at 9150744. Textilian art exhibit The JCC walls and halls are adorned with colorful ottomans, pillows, hats, and handbags created by artist Kathryn Van Sciver, who also restores oriental antique rugs to their original beauty. Ms. Sciver's work is on display in the JCC gallery through December 31. LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe County Courthouse grounds here have no religious displays...almost. The county commissioners banned a religious Christmas display from the grounds in 1999, but Jack Ruckel, a local

advocate of such displays shows up yearly with a portable manger scene on his pickup truck just outside the building. He's outside the grounds and within the law, so there are no protests of his activity.
