To my grandson.. —Part 1 By RABBI WILLIAM BERKOWITZ
A letter on the occasion of the birth of my first grandchild, Menachem Leib. is letter originally appeared in Yiddish in ily 23,1993, issue of the Algemeiner JourRabbi Berkowitz translated it to reach a Hpr audience.) ^Har Menachem Leib, I saw you for a few minutes shortly after you were born, but it was only at the bris when I held you in my arms that I was able to look intclyour beautiful countenance. What a face! Such serenity and spirituality radiated from you. It was as if the glory of God shone down upon you. I held you tightly as one of the Sanqeks; the other being your Daddy's father. Rabbi Paul Brenner. I embraced you with every fiber of my being. As I looked upon you, I saw the countenance of so many people who have meant and mean so much to me in my life. If a tear or two fell upon your lovely cheeks, they were mine — an emotional expression of gratitude for this most beautiful gift from God. What a glorious miracle — the arrival of a new life.
