Mr. Roth's uncle. Rabbi Neustadt, founded the Talmud Torah in 1911 that later became BJE. The Neustadt family has given the Indianapolis Jewish community a number of educators, who for many years

"My Torah reading is called Shmote, meaning Exodus," said Eric. "We learn that G-d orders Moses, through the burning bush, to take the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses utters the famous saying: 'Let My People Go.' But Pharaoh just makes the Israelites work harder." ings. Isaiah said his words would be believed when they came to fruition. On a positive note, Isaiah saw a vision of a shofar announcing that G-d will ultimately redeem the Jewish people. When they hear the shofar, they will know they have reached Israel." Eric sees a common theme from both his readings. "They give us hope that G-d will protect us and make sure Israel is always there for our future return." Some day Eric hopes to visit Israel because "it seems like a nice place and I think I can learn a lot by going there." Eric is a seventh grader at Carmel Junior High School, where he is perfecting the violin. His favorite sports are basketball, baseball, football and tennis. He also enjoys video games and talking to his 30year old double yellow head Amazon parrot Herbie. His parents are the most positive influence in his life, he says, because they are good role models. Eric looks forward to seeing his uncle and cousin at his simeha.

Support sought for rights group BLOOMINGTON — Two couples here have scheduled a Jan. 13 house party to raise funds for Rabbis for Human Rights, an Israel-based organization that supports the rights of Palestinian Israelis as well as Jewish Israelis. The party will be at the home of Nancy Brand and Eric Holm, co-hosting the event with Sue Swartz and Bruce Solomon. The event will include the showing of a video about the work of Rabbi Arik Ascherman, executive director of RHR. RHR projects include stopping illegal demolition of Palestinians' homes, protecting foreign workers' rights, ensuring equal access to health care for all Israelis and safeguarding women's rights, according to the organization.
Hoosiers seem to be more giving and more focused on family and religion since the Sept. 11 attacks, according to an AP report based on interviews with religious leaders
and theologians.
Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck said people are reordering priorities, emphasizing work less, family and commu-
nity values more.
Rabbi David Feder of
Temple Adath B'nai Israel in Evansville said he's noticed more people talking to him about faith, both Jews and non-Jews, although not necessarily about the terrorism. Feder said he found people in the 150 households that attend his synagogue more eager to help others this year than in the past, wdth no need this year to noodge people to give for Thanksgiving food
baskets.

Second Helpings Inc., which "rescues" food to distribute to the hungry, singled out Courtney Cantor in its quarterly newsletter, because she "decided to share the blessings of her Bat Mitzvah with Second Helpings." "In addition to donating a
