gation happily remarks, "It is a great thing to do and it is important for the community to have a place to communicate with their maker in the language of our people." Morning prayers at this synagogue are recited all in Hebrew but the Siddur also provides the English translation for those not versed in the "Holy Language" who wish to speak to God in English. This is the only synagogue in Northwest Indiana that boasts a morning minyan As the Torah is taken out every Monday and Thursday, blessings are made for the ailing hearts in this corner of the state. Martin Tarler has been a resident of Munster for 28 years and says he not only enjoys the camaraderie of the participating others, but finds meaning in making blessings over the Torah scrolls of those afflicted with various prob-

lems.

"People call in with the names of Jews and non-Jews who are sick and we will make a blessing for them," Tarler

states.

Raphael Ostrovsky, who has been the rabbi for over 20 years believes that "in addition to tradition" these sensitive souls have a "true desire to help others" who need a minyan to say the prayers for their loved ones that have passed away. Highland resident Jake Rubin feels it is important to provide comfort for the relatives of the d( that "something vital is miss

ays iiss-

ing fmm his life" when he cannot attend this morning minyan Wrapped in the warmth of their prayer shawls, these congregants with the indefatigable spirit and the holy words from their prayer books not only bless God and pray for world peace, but ask the Almighty "to guard their tongue from evil" and their "lips from speaking falsehood." After morning prayers, 82-year-old Munster resident Alexander Morris takes it upon himself to prepare and arrange the breakfast that is served every morning. This breakfast is not only "fit for a king" but also includes the friendly chat about news of the day and of the world Beautiful trays bedecked with fish, bagels, cream cheese etc. are brought in from the north side of Chicago, donated by Sylvia Weiss and her Continued on page 10
