The Whistle Blower’
By CHARLES EPSTEIN An intriguing film concerning espionage is "The Whistle Blower," but this is a different kind of film. The story is complicated with
considerable twists and turns. The screenplay was written by Britisher Julian Bond and based upon the novel by John Hale. Tautly directed by Simon Langton, this film will keep you on the edge of your seat because you must pay attention. Otherwise you would get so lost, your enjoyment would be threatened. Trying to fathom how this whole thing works is a job.
British intelligence executives know a top level spy has penetrated their organization. But for some reason, they want nobody to know that they know. So when underlings in the organization discover something is amiss, one by one they are found dead. These deaths could be accidental, but we know better. They have been murdered because they were about to "blow the whistle" revealing the mole inside British Intelligence. It is all
very complicated.
These cool, calculated murders are performed by British agents upon British agents. At the end of the movie, not all the questions are answered. One does not leave the theater with a neat little package, but, at the same time, nor is one disappointed. This is one
thrilling film.

dered agents. The father and son scenes are precious as the son little by little loses his interest in espionage because of his findings. His idealistic philosophy takes over a once methodical and realistic mind. Naturally, higher-ups declare his elimination from the project. If he is dead he cannot talk. Caine again gives a superb performance as, at first, a naive father who cannot believe the circumstances surrounding his son. Then he goes about proving his son's murder and trying to discover who carried out the orders. What helps this film immensely is the excellent supporting cast. James Fox, Nigel Havers, Felicity Dean and Barry Foster reveal their enormous talents. Their is also a tremendous performance by the old warhorse himself. Sir John Gielgud, who dominates every scene he is in. His strength certainly adds to the credibility of this story. But is it real? Could this actually be happening? And has it happened before? Could it happen in this country? This is powerful stuff, something that really stimulates the mind. If it could be true, it is really
scary.
Aside from politics, "The Whistle Blower" is a fastpaced suspense film that keeps you constantly wondering. What is real, what isn't? What is conjecture, what isn't? Who is telling the truth, who is lying? All the elements exist for a most intelligent and enjoyable motion picture.

Herron helps working artists
As the only not-for-profit exhibition space dedicated to current visual art in Indianapolis, the Herron Gallery has prospered since it opened its doors in 1978. The Gallery provides and stimulates contemporary art dialogue in the Midwest. It celebrates and showcases avant-garde national and international artists, as well as emerging regional and national figures. Ten to 12 exhibitions are presented annually, each lasting for a six week period. Exhibitions range from oneperson shows or installations to theme exhibitions of 20 or more artists.
The Gallery does not collect art. Rather, it is dedicated to presenting art produced during the last 10 years — promoting the work of Uvine artists. As part of the Herron School of Art of Indiana University, which is in turn a school of IUPUI, the Gallery presents student and senior exhibition in the spring, and every fall a faculty exhibition. The Herron Gallery receives major operating support in funding, facilities and services from Indiana University. The Gallery seeks and gains support also from members of the Herron Gallery.
