I Heard It On Tuesday Indy teens join
inauguration festivities
By GISELA WEISZ ■ 255 5019 BIG TIME: The second inauguration of President Ronald Reagan was on a bitterly cold day. Many who went up to Washingto n to witness this historica 1 event were disappointed to miss the Gisela outdoor fesitivities. Among the many was teenager Robin Schwartz, daughter of Dee and Sanford Schwartz.

student who went to Washington with 105 schoolmates, among them Lori Bomstein, Susan Levin and Marc Glazer. The young people left Indianapolis on Jan. 19. They visited the Arlington National Cemetery, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Institution, National Art Gallery, Mount Vernon and Naval Museum — and they even had a picture stop at the White House. Even though the kids liad to miss the big attraction — the parade — they all still had a great time. The most fun was the Saturday night dance.

There were 700 kids in a Holiday Inn and they all participated in this gigantic party. **» BROTHERS’ KEEPERS: ‘Operation Moses’ saves Ethiopian Jewish lives by resettling them in Israel. This worthwhile endeavor was espoused by a fundraising social at Diane and Herb Simon’s home on January 21. Gerald Kraft, the International President of B’nai B’rith, who visited Ethiopia recently, was the main speaker. The total monies raised to date in the community is $205,000. Offering cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were hosts Diane and Herb Simon to Shirley Backer, Susan and Dr. Peter Cahn , Carol and Arnold Chaplik, Ruth and Arnold Feinberg, Patti and Dixon Dann, Barrie and Dr. Gary Fisch, Phyllis and Ed Gabovitch, Janet and Jerry Gershman, Pat and Irv Glazer, Audrey and Ed Goldwasser, Carla and Earl Harris, Paula and Stanley Herman, Tom Herman, Judy and Steven Jacobs, Bruce Jacoson. Bill Julian, Cookie and Jerry Kraft, Luise and Caroll Kahn Jr., Irwin Katz, Meta and David Kleiman, Clara Larner, Linda and Herb Melrose, Ellen and Harry Nadler, Vivian and Phil Pecar, Betty Paller, Paula and Jay Rosenfeld, Mike Seigel, Carole and Dr. Morton Tavel, Charlene and Sid Tuchman and Jane and Elliott Yolles. Unlike during World War II — when Americans did not find it possible to lend a helping hand toward their fellow-Jews, who were being annihilated in Europe — it is possible now to help the Ethiopian Jewry with money. Send your contributions tc "Operation Moses" in care of the Jewish Welfare Federation, Indianapolis. ***

as president of “NFL”, the retired men's club. *** CARE ACROSS THE OCEAN: An interesting group of people gathered in Sylvia and Mike Blain’s home on January 19. The Blains, who have a son and two grandchildren living in Israel, invited all parents who have children presently living in Israel for a get-acquainted party. When the Blains started to compile the list, they were surprised to learn that there were 24 Indianapolis families with children in Israel. They suspect that there might be still others. Those who attended this first gathering in Indianapolis were Mary Bronicki and her son Dennis, Gabriel Cohen, Lee and Bernie Frankovitz, Dorothy and Sheldon Friedman, Nora and Harry Goldstein, Helen and Milton Goldstein, Devera and Ron Gurvitz, Nachama Levy and Sarah Friedman, Lila and
Art Mirkin, Ruth and Leon Nitsun, Emma and Richard Stafford, Anita and Marshall Yovits, and Rachel and Rabbi Ronald Gray. The Grays have no children of their own living in Israel at the moment, but they have spent a year in Israel not long ago and were in close touch with Hoosier offspring who resided there. The group discussed and agreed to form a local chapter of “APAI” — Association of Parents of American Israelis. “APAI” is a national organization with chapters in all major American cities They will meet again in February when an “APAI” national representative will be here to explain the aims of the organization. Sylvia and Mike would like parents who are interested in this new organization on the Indy scene — to get in touch with them. *** VISIT: Sandy and Dr. (Continued On Next Page)
