$15,000 Ambulance Drive Goes Over Top
Success crowned the campaign to provide a fullyequipped ambuance for Israel’s Tel Hashomer Hospital as $1,887.00 was contributed this week to put the total
at $15,924.40.
POST AND OPINION readers came through again for a needed project in Israel, starting with some $40,000 for tuition for high school students when high school in Israel was not free, and continuing with a modern x-ray room for the Government Hospital in Eilat at a time when that community was ancient. From there Post and Opinion readers supplied an ambulance for Red Magen David, and oversubscribed it to the point where the additional funds were applied to a Red Cross bank.

The newest achievement of Post and Opinion readers came about through the suggestion of Dr. Aleck Herczberg of Tel Hashomer Hospital on a visit to his parents in Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Herczberg, formerly of Bulawayo, then Rhodesia and now Zimbabwe. Dr. Herczberg related the need to The Post and Opinion who readily concurred and from past experience recognized that P-0 readers would respond. THE FINAL $500 from the religious school of The Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, which like all gifts from religious schools is being doubled by an anonymous donor, came as the drive was nearing its goal and put the campaign way over the top. Additional gifts will no doubt arrive in the mail over the next week or 10 days until this issue is received by subscribers and thus the fund should go over the $16,000 mark. The additional monies will be devoted to some aspect of the hospital’s needs.

Post and Opinion readers have a vaunted record of aid to Israel starting with a fullyequipped ambulance for the Magen David Adorn, Israel s Red Cross, plus a Blood Bank, an X-ray room for the Government Hospital in Eilat, a tractor for the Falasha which, when it proved to be not feasible because the land provided became inaccessible, was used to smuggle them into Israel, and other benefactions. including $40,000 for scholarships for Israel’s poor at a time when high school was available only to those who could afford the tuition. Tel Hashomer was founded in 1940 on the outskirts of Tel Aviv and served as a British
army hospital. When the British withdrew from Israel and the War of Liberation erupted, the conglomeration of quonset huts were transformed ito a military hospital as an evacuation center for the wounded from Tel Aviv became a civilian hospital in 1953. and now caters to both military and civilian needs. SMALL AND LARGE gifts will be appreciated, and donors will be listed week to week unless otherwise specified. The gifts are tax exempt, and remittances should be made out to the Tel Hashomer Hospital Fund, and mailed to The Post and Opinion, 611 N. Park Ave., Indianapolis. Ind 46204.

Why Women's League Changed Its Names
TEL AVIV - The League for Women’s Rights in the Courts has changed its name to the League For Family Rights as men began seeking help from the volunteer organization specializing in divorce problems. The League’s eflorts are aimed at keeping divorcing couples out of the courts Divorce litigation, says founder Sylvia Mandelbaum, is a non-Jewish concept and
leads only to a spiral of mutual accusations and degradation. Under Jewish law, divorce is an agreement between the spouses, with the man giving the divorce and the woman accepting it. Mandelbaum teaches volunteers, whom she calls consultants, to to differentiate them from trained marriage counselors, to help couples reach an agreement amicably and .'yi.tJ 1 .mutual respect.
