w Sidney Freeman Dies

^ Graveside services for Sidney Freedman, a retired scrap metal dealer, were held last Sunday in B'nai Torah Cemetery. Freedman, 80. died July 27 in Memphis,

Tenn.

He had lived the last several years in Memphis and was a resident of Indianapolis

in the early 1970s.

Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary coordina-

ted the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, d Anna; two daughters, Mrs. ? Sam Nash and Mrs. Joseph f Fogle, and two sisters, Rose

Cohen and Jennie Jaffee.

Senior Citizen Wins Medals In Olympics Bernard A. Segal, a 68-year-old Carmel resident, was numerous medals in the senior Olympics of the Indiana AAU state championships recently held here. Segal won two gold medals, three silver medals and tw-o bronze medals in swimming and track. Earlier this season Segal placed in the 500 Festival marathon. This was quite an accomplishment for Segal and he urges other senior citizens to join these activities.

Newcomers Piano Lessons At Center The understeins Given By Mrs. Gurvitz

Bernie and Muriel Understein, 850 Hoover Village Dr., have recently moved from Washington, D.C. to Indianapolis. Bernie is vice president and regional director of the Global Menu Club in this area and Muriel is also a vice president of the same corporation. Muriel attended Brooklyn College in New York. Bernie attended the University of Maryland in College Park. Muriel was the executive secretary of a law firm in Washington. D.C. while Bernie was vice president of the Global Group, Inc. in Bethesda, Md. The Understein’s have two children Michael lives in St. Louis, Mo., where he runs the same office and also operates a restaurant. Francee lives in the Washington D.C. area and is the mother of three child-

ren.

Five different piano programs will be offered at the Center this fall for children of all ages, beginning age 4. Classes will be for beginners as well as students on other levels of study. Group and private instruction for adults will be offered. Registration will take place the first and second week of August. Mrs. Jean Gurvitz, piano instructor at the Jewish Community Center, participated in a piano teaching seminar in June hosted by the University Notes On People Sheila Suess, the city corporation counsel, has filed names of an exploratory committee in preparation for her campaign for the Republican nomination for the 11th District Congressional seat held by Democrat Rep. Andrew Jacobs Jr.

BBYO Director To Leave Area Mr. Jeffrey R. Hoffman, the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio Regional Director for the past three years has accepted the position as WesternAlleghanv Regional Director for BBYO in Pittsburgh, Penn, and will leave the regional offices on Aug. 10. When he first became KIO Regional Director, the Regional Office was located in Northwest Indiana. Two years ago the KIO Office moved to Indianapolis to better serve the Region from a more centrally located area.

Mrs. Gurvitz attended classes in improvisation techniques for the intermediate and advanced piano student conducted by Mary Pollard, International Piano Teaching Foundation Consultant and professor of piano at Columbia State Teachers College. She also attended a training session in pre-school and early keyboard instruction conducted by Karen Meador, consultant for the IPTF.

Dianne Pollen Dies While Vacationing Services for Mrs. Dianne C. Pollen, 38, 2811 North Ritter Ave., were held last week at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary with burial in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery North. She died July 23 in Georgetown, S.C. while vacationing. A native of Evansville, Mrs. Pollen lived in Indianapolis for ten and one-half years. A student at Herron School of Art she participated in the Herron Senior Exhibition this past spring and received an award as outstanding ceramics student for 1978-79. She also had her work exhibited at Lockerbie Gallery in 1978. She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey and Joseph Pollen.
