LASER INDUSTRIES, LTD., of Tel Aviv which manufactures the “Sharplan,” is continuously adding improvements according to the suggestions of surgeons who are using the equipment. The latest is an attachment to the regular model w'hich includes a microscope and a remote control arm, so that surgeons can aim the laser with unheard of precision unhampered even by a shaking hand. Although an American microsurgical laser exists, only the Israel model allows for both regular and microsurgery. Since May 1974, over 50 “Sharplans” have been installed all over the world, and over 5,000 clinical operations performed. Despite the successes, Laser Industries marketing manager points out the .special difficulties of selling the light scalpel. “Surgeons are the most conservative people in the world. That’s.as it should be; after all, they’re dealing with human lives. It will take five to eight years, but I believe we are at the beginning of a real revolution. The potential of the laser has really not been tapped yet.’’
