THE JEWISH POST
M. Z. Frank Grove
ISAIAH FUND
Campaign Launched
REACHES GOAL
The campaign to plant a grove of trees in Israel for the late M.Z. Frank, whose column a-ppeared in The Post and Opinion for more than a quarter of a century and whose role in the Zionist Movement as a theoretician, historian and commentator was hardly matched, is off and running. We are not placing any limit on the amount of money required, but would assume that $5,000 would probably be suf-
ficient.
Since the funds will all be channeled through the Jewish National Fund, they will be tax deductible. What will be required will be large gifts, but small gifts also will be most acceptable. In good Jewish tradition several of the contributions thus far are in the amount of $18, the number which represents Chai, or Life in Hebrew. All gifts will be acknowledged in The Post and Opinion. Mr Frank and his beloved wife were the victims of an

A final gift of $49 from Samuel Cherrick, of St. Louis, brought the campaign to rise $650 to inscribe the name, Isaiah, on the Isaiah Wall at the United Nations Plaza in New York to a successful conclusion. The work of appending the name, “Isaiah” to the famous quotation of the Hebrew Prophet is expected to proceed promptly. A photograph of the completed inscription will be printed as soon as the work is accomplished. The famous quotation reads: “THEY SHALL beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation v neither shall they learn war anymore.”
Appreciated Informative Column M.Z. Frank Grove: A collection of funds for a Garden of Trees in Israel would be a very deserving tribute to M.Z. Frank and his wife. My husband and t appreciated his informative, educational column. I enclose $5.00 for the trees. Hope you get a good response. We enjoy The Post and Opinion, which we read from cover to cover. Fred Kahan Contributes Too M.Z. Frank Grove: It is a privilege to join you and the thousands of friends of M.Z. Frank in paying tribute to his beloved memory through the establishment of a grove of trees in Israel. I have been an ardent admirer of M.Z. from the early years of our friendship to the last column he had written. May the G-d of Zion rest his soul and may you be blessed for the mitzvah which you are performing. FRED KAHAN Executive vice president, Western Region, Jewish National Fund

TEL AVIV — The gap between productivity of Israel workers and those of Europe has widened and will affect Israel’s ability to compete in the European Common Market, it was related by Israel Medan, director of the Israel Institute for Productivity. He said that while the Israeli worker produces $7,000 of goods and services a year, his European counterpart produced $19,000 worth. He said that one alternative was for Israelis to reduce their standard of living and accept lower wages in order to lower production costs
