To Honor Graduates, Students

Congregation B’nai Torah has announced that its Religious School will hold graduation exercises at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17th, as part of the morning services of the second day of Shavuos. The community is invited. Two groups of students will participate in the services and have graduation certificates conferred upon them: graduates of the Upper Level; and graduates of the High School program. STUDENTS graduating from the Upper Level into the High School program are: Sandra Frankovitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Frankovitz; Jackie Freed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Freed; Neil Friedman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Friedman; Sherri Gurvitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gurvitz; Monica Hasten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hasten and Katie Kovac, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Kovac. Mona Frankovitz, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Bernard Frankovitz, is the sole graduate of the High School program. The High School division of the B’nai Torah Religious School was only recently established after the teenagers themselves expressed the desire to continue their Jewish studies after the customary ninth grade cutoff point. Miss Frankovitz has recently been accepted at Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women where she will enter as a freshman in September. Certificates of honor will also be presented to participants in t h e Junior and Kinder Kongregation programs and presentations will be made to the teaching staffs. A.C.E. had elections on April 30 at the home of Bruce Nelson. Bill Berkowitz was re-elected as president, Eddie Horwitz will be the vice president, and David Resnick will be the new secretary. A.C.E.’s treasurer will be Steve Schwartz. Social Activities chairman will be Jon Abrahams. David Blatt will be the new board’s cultural activities chairman. Barry Wides is their new advisor. A.C.E. had a dinner following elections at which they presented flowers to Sonja Kantor for all her help during Stunt Nite. They have decided to put their Stunt Nite awards in the F.J.Y.O. office at the new Jewish Community Center.

They will go to Eagle Creek on this Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Games and a picnic lunch are planned for the day, finishing with elections. The board would once again like to encourage all girls to attend to build membership. Councilettes would like to specially invite eighth and ninth grade girls to come learn more about the organization.

A.C.E. also held an executive board meeting on Sunday, April 4 and a general board meeting on May 11.

BREBEUF Preparatory High School seniors will graduate at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 18. Graduating members of F.J.Y.O. are Mike Pecar and Steve Schlossberg. Mike is planning on attending Denison University in Ohio next fall. Congratulations and good luck with your future plans!

SHOSHANA B.B.G. 891 had elections on Wednesday, May 7, at advisor, Susan Sandock’s, home. Julie Rochlin will serve another term as president. Stacy Frank will be B.B.G.’s new vice president. Helen Robins was elected as recording secretary. Corresponding secretary will be Tammy Weisfeld, assisted by Helen Kurlander and Elaine Vogel. Dory Caulderon will be treasurer and Karen Kahn will be publicity and scrapbook reporter. Lori Bluestein was elected as sergeant at arms and will be assisted by Susan Lowell. Lisa Nelson was elected to be M.I.T. (member in training) Mom. Adele Cohen, B.B.G. regional president, will be the chapter’s counselor. Helen Robins, Stacy Frank, and Lisa Nelson were voted to represent Shoshana during the summer district conclave in Champaign, 111. Lisa Davis and Leslie Gronour were recognized as outstanding senior members of the chapter.

Congratulations to Annie Fine, a junior at Shortridge High School. Annie will leave for Brieuc, France on June 9. as a participant in the Indiana University Honors program. Participants are chosen on the basis of a test and on their good standing in academic and language studies.

The Indianapolis Chapter of Women’s American ORT presented a $50 scholarship to Miss Serita Atkinson of the J. Everitt Light Vocational School at a luncheon in her honor on Wednesday, April 16. She was chosen for this award toward her training in the secretarialclerical lab at the school because of her secretarial ability and her outstanding attitude toward fellow workers. The ORT ladies also toured the school.
