Mid-East Expert To Speak At Hammond Bond Rally
HAMMOND - Robert St John, prominent author, journalist, radio news analyst and authority on international affairs, also a frequent visitor ro Israel and the Middle East, will speak at 7 p in. on Sunday, Nov. 17, at Kneseth Israel Synagogue. Hammond, in behalf of the Northwest Indiana State of Israel Bond drive. The author of 18 books, many of which have appeared on the best-seller lists. Mr. St. John has completed well over two million miles of travel and has visited more than 60 countries. He is heard in a special fiveminute news commentary five days a week over 300 radio stations throughout America During 1967 he reported the Six Day War from the Middle East. Shortly thereafter, he wrote “Shalom Means Peace, 1 ' describing the birth of the Jewish State. HE HAS WRITTEN nine books on the Middle East and has the distinction of being the only author to have written biographies of David Ben-Gurion and Gama! Abdel Nasser. He

2nd Center Film Set For Nov. 12
The Key,' 1 second film of the Jewish Community Center's 14th Annual Film Series, will be shown at 8 p.m on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Jewish Educational Association. This British film, directed by Carol Reed, stars William Holden, Trevor Howard and Sophia Loren. Producer Carl Foreman describes the rescue missions of an unarmed tug during Britain's World War II ocean defenses, as the background for a personal story in which men and women come to grips not with death but with life and themselves.

MICHIGAN CITY - The 21st annual Sinai Sunday Forum starts this Sunday with a speech by Sen. William Proxmire on “Our Ailing Economy — Is It Curable? 11 This speech is one in a series of five in the community program which was originally sponsored by Sinai Temple. Other speakers scheduled for this series include Marvin Kalb on the “Kissinger Connection, 11 James Hoge of the Chicago SunTimes with a “View from the Bright One," Studs Terkel speaking on oral history, and Lesley Stahl on network news. Each talk will be coordinated with programs highlighting the local aspect of the topic. Dance Workshop Is November 23 Mihai David, specialist in Roumanian folk dances, will be featured at the International Folk Dance Workshop, sponsored by the Jewish Community Center, at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 and at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. at 6711 Hoover Rd. Mark Hasten, Michael Lerman To Receive Day School Award Mark Hasten of Indianapolis board member of the Jewish
and Michael Lerman of South Bend have been named recipients of the 1974 Amudim Award of Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools. The Award, given each year to 18 outstanding leaders in the American Jewish Community who have shown initiative in the field of Jewish education, will be presented at the Awards Dinner in New York
on Nov. 17.
“THERE IS no limit to what we can do in Jewish education if we do it right." said Hasten. “There must be an intensive effort and I am hoping the Indianapolis community will soon realize this. 11 Hasten also said he was deeply honored by
the award.
He is a founder of the Indianapolis Hebrew Academy, a vice president of the Jewish Educational Association, a
Community Relations Council, and immediate past president of B'nai Torah. He is Indiana co-chairman for Israel Bonds with his brother Hart, who received the Amudim Award two years previously, and is also a board member of the Jewish Welfare Federation. The Hasten brothers were recentlychosen by the Post as Indiana
Jewish Men of the Year. Lerman is a founder of the
South Bend Hebrew Day School and also served as chairman of the school’s Organization Committee. Treasurer of the Steel Warehouse Company, Lerman did his undergraduate work at Brandeis University where he was Captain of the Wrestling Team and the New England A A.U. Champion, and his graduate work (Master’s Degree) at Brown University in
