jobs, to enable them to find a solid economic base for their newborn liberty in Israel. Unless they do so, their hardwon freedom to emigrate will turn into a hollow victory and frustration and disappointment will destroy their hopes for a

new life.

I S R A E L ’S ECONOMY is heavily overburdened by a large defense budget. Without massive help through the $450 million Israel Bond campaign, she will not be able to cope with the extra demands of an immigration that will reach the record figure of 70,000 and the growing pressure from the people living on the subsistence level for improved housing and better jobs. There is only one way to create these jobs and that is to expand and develop every branch of Israel’s economic life. AS THE PRINCIPAL source of funds for Israel’s Development Budget, the proceeds of Israel Bonds will be put to work building new industries, enlarging existing plants, constructing new development projects and establishing technologically based enterprises to increase Israel’s export potential. This year, no less than 90 per cent of Israel’s new Development Budget must come from Israel Bonds. It is up to us to see to it that once the immigrants are there, that they will have not only the freedom they'came for but also the opportunity to add their best efforts toward the common goal of building Israel, of creating the freedom that comes with peace — the freedom that nurtures human dignity and national rebirth.

Passovers Meaning (Continued from Preceding Pg.) lay the real task. The goal was to achieve the ideals by which alone Israel may survive. Hence Moses pressed them: On to Sinai, On to Sinai! Currently we live in a world torn by tensions. We of the free world should keep in mind that, in this struggle, too, there are both immediate aims and permanent goals. It is our immediate purpose to halt the advance of tyranny and dictatorship. Our ultimate objective, however, is to achieve an enduring peace which will make all men free. To protect the dignity of man, guarantee the right to worship God, and enable all men to live in a climate of security and brotherhood — these are the ultimates for which we are striving. Passover, we have seen, teaches us to accentuate positive values. We must not stop after the first victorious battle. Beyond each victory, we must still strive for the blessings which Sinai symbolizes: justice, peace, freedom — for all the children of God.
