the annual convention of the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association in Evansville. Among them was Robert Fischgrund, president of the St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Board. Fischgrund was honored for ‘‘pioneering in the development of the county parks and leadership in county park legislation.” Bar-Mitzvah services for David Rubin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin H. Rubin, was held Friday in Temple Beth-El. A reception was held afterwards in the community room. Best wishes to the Bar Mitzvah boy and his entire family. The 29th annual national observance of Jewish Book Month has particular interest for area persons in that Rabbi Albert M. Shulman’s recently published two-volume, “Gateway to Judaism,” will be featured. The month-long event, extending through Dec. 12 is sponsored by local Jewish community groups and the Jewish Book Council of the National Jewish Welfare Board. The Jewish Community Council of St. Joseph Valley, traditionally at this time, donates books of Jewish interest to the South Bend public libraries and to the University of Notre Dame Memorial Library. Rabbi Shulman’s book was chosen for presentation this year. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Feferman serve as co-chairmen of local activities for the month. South Bend has been selected as the site for the 1971 B’nai B’rith Youth Organization’s regional convention for the Ken-tucky-Indiana-Ohio Region. The convention will be held at the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Notre P \ from Dec. 26 throug! 30. About 250 boys and g are expected to attend. The youth co-ordinators for the convention are Paul Price and Marsha Centner, and the adult co-ordinators are Mrs. Betty Brook and Mr. Ronald Silverman. Mazol tov to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pomeranz, 3030 Rue Renoir who are the proud parents of a daughter born Nov. 28, in the St. Joseph Hospital. Jules M. Ruebens, 66, of 3303 Caroline St. was dead on arrival at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Memorial hospital after suffering a heart attack at Temple Beth-El. He was a retired regional manager for Investors
Diversified Services Corp. He was born on Feb. 15, 1905, in New York City. He had lived in South Bend for 30 years, coming from Waterloo, Iowa. On Nov. 28, 1939 he married Lillian Glickauf, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jill Zinman of South Bend; a grandchild; two brothers, Herman and David of California and five sisters, Mrs. Sarah Tenenbaum, Mrs. Ida Siegel, Mrs. Lee Dammann, Mrs. Goldie Siberz and Mrs. Evelyn Nathenson. Memorial services were held in Temple Beth-El,
Rabbi Elliott D. Rosenstock and Rabbi Albert Shulman, offic i a t i n g . Graveside rites were held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, 111. Mrs. Gertrude Greenslatt Maza, 73, of 125 W. Marion St., died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 7, 1898 in Chicago, and had lived in South Bend 71 years. Surviving are her husband, Hyman; a daughter, Mrs. Allan Levine of Southfield, Mich., and a son, Richard, of South Bend. (Continued on Next Page)
