Congregation "Still On Cloud Nine

LAFAYETTE <P-0) - An Indiana congregation which experimented with a week-end institute over Labor Day was still on cloud nine this week. So successful was the weekend at Camp Zionsville with Rab- | bi Joseph Liberies of Temple Israel here, that already fourteen members have signed up for the institute to be held in 1963. Deaths . . . m Jean Kaminsky Mrs. Jeanne Kaminsky, 55, a former resident of Indianapolis, died Monday, Sept. 16, in Miami, Fla. Born in Lithuania, Mrs. Kaminsky came to Marion in 1909 and to Indianapolis in 1917. She left for Florida four years ago. A member of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, she was active in Jewish circles in Marion and Hammond. Her husband Morris Kaminsky, an electrical engineer died in 1957. Mrs. Kaminsky was buried at the Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery on Thursday. Survivors are a son, Allen H Kane of Miami; a daughter, Mrs. A1 Mintz, of Hammond; a sister, Mrs. William C. Miller of Indianapolis; three brothers, Abe and Samuel Wides of Indianapolis, and Julius Wides, of Santa Monica. Cal., and two grandchildren. • Gilda Kaplan Mrs. Gilda Kaplan, 53, of Miami Beach, Fla., and formerly of Indianapolis, died Friday, Sept. 14. after a long illness. Funeral services were held in the Aaron-Ruben Funeral Home. She was buried on Sunday, Sept 16, in Beth-El Zedeck Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Harry Kaplan, her daughter Reba. her three brothers, Sam. Isaac and Harry Roth, and a sister, Mrs. William Schwartz, all of Indianapolis. Mrs. Kaplan lived for 12 years in Miami Beach and had been active in Hadassah. Indiana Welcomes The Rubin Karshes Mr. and Mrs. Rubin Karsh, have moved to Indianapolis from New Orleans. Mr. Karsh is with L. Strauss and Co. He is merchandise manager in the women’s division. The Karhes have been active in community work, and attended the Touro Synagogue in New Orleans. They are now members of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.

Five years ago: Mrs. Arthur Londe, 5725 Washington Blvd., was hostess at a kickoff meeting of the Brandeis Women’s membership drive . . . David Goldstein officiated as rabbi and Marvin Meyer was cantor at USY Sabbath Services . . . Seventeen teens completed their Junior Life Saver requirements at the Jewish Community Center pool. Hadassah Presents Musical At Lunch “A Date with Hadassah,” a musical drama, directed by Mrs. Robert Greenberg, will be presented at the Indianapolis chapter of Hadassah luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. at the Jewish Educational Association premises. The narrator is Mrs. Herbert Larman. Mrs. Charlotte will provide the piano accompaniment for the chorus which includes Mmes Milton Alter, Herbert Backer, Julius Brown, Alexander Kahn and Marvin Silbermann. Mrs. Irving Joffe will make the invocation. Mmes. Allan B. Selig and Zoltan Weisz will be in charge of hospitality. Mrs. Steinberg will arrange the decorations. Mrs. Abe Kulwin, Hadassah president, said that new members will be guests of the organization. They will be introduced to the chapter by membership chairman, Mrs. Saul Hochman, and co-chairman, Mrs. Edward Kaufman.
