'Babes In Toyland' Is Theme Of Hadassah Sponsored Dance
A night of fun and frolic is in store for all at the Sept. 15 •*Babes in Toyland Dance” sponsored by members of the Ha’ima and the Business and Professional groups of Hadassah. TTie dance will begin at 9 p.m. at the Antlers Hotel. Elaborate preparations have been made by members to ensure that the dance will be a success. Two 72 feet long murals, one showing story book characters inarching out of the book, will adorn the walls. A huge lollypop tree and another mural of juggling clowns will add to the gaiety of the occasion. Hie designs and decorations were created by Alan Hal pern. Revelers will find red miniature trains on all tables seating eight. Heading the dance committee are Mrs. Robert Perk and Mrs. Sheldon Landau for Ha’ima and Misses Rose Tobias and Ida Bluestein for Business and Professional Hadassah. Committee chairmen are Miss Lillian Lande and Mrs. M o e Kauffman, ad book; Mmes. Jack Jaffe and Robert Malbin, tickets; Mrs. Joseph Kroot, Mrs.
Robert Arkin and Miss Anne Calderon, tombola; Mmes. Maurice Schankerman and Morris Raff, publicity; and Mrs. Alan Halpem decorations. Mrs. Martin Zagarinsky is treasurer for the event. Committee members are: tickets, Mmes. Arkin, Gerald Kraft, Robert Goldberg, Bernard Grae, Richard Falendar, Arthur Klein, Michael Maurer, Alex Star, Sidney Tuckman, Paul Pinkus, Stanley Jacobs, Allen SeJig, Zagarinsky and Sigmund Brenner. The Tombola committee is Mmes. Allen Cohen, Louis Pinchuck, Norman Ochslein, Steven Ancel, Lowell Wohlfield, Joseph Zuckerberg, Fred Frisch, Leonard Kocen, Sidney Davis, Sheldon Breskow, Samuel Goldstein and Misses Lande, Tobias and Nancy Lichtenberg. Publicity workers are Mmes. Leo Fang, Selig, Ronald Newmark, Hal pern, Jaffe, Tuchman, Norma Newman, Edward Garbowitch and Kauffman. Working on decorations are Mmes. Beth-EI Sisterhood To Meet
New members of Beth-EI Zedeck Sisterhood will be honored at a luncheon meeting on Monday. Sept. 10 in the auditorium, it was announced by Sisterhood president, Mrs. Daniel Jacobson. A consecration service for the introduction of new members has been planned by the membership chairmen, Mmes. Norman Cohen and Ruben Levcnthal. Rabbi Sidney Steiman will review the current best seller, “Some of My Best Friends. . .** He will be introduced by Mrs. Robert Congress, program chairman. Mrs. Abe Borin is luncheon Sisterhood Holds Dinner Sept. 10 Bnai Torah Sisterhood will hold a dinner meeting at 6:30 p. m., Monday, Sept. 10, in the vestry. Dinner chairman is Mrs. Louis Silverman. She will be assisted by Mmes. Bessie Elkin, Sarah Bloom, William Zohn, Becky Dobrowitz and Ann Aronstam. Mrs. Herman Liberman is in charge of the table setting; Mrs. Leonard Reiter, serving of the dinner; and Mrs. Joseph Weisfeld and Mrs. Sol Schacter, of tickets, at the door. The charge is $1.75. A skit entitled "To Tell The Truth About Bnai Torah” is part of the entertaining program. Mrs. Meyer Satinsky is program chairman. Participants in the skit are Mmes. Local Zionists To Hold Dinner And Elections The Indianapolis Zionist District will hold its annual general membership dinner and election of officers and board of directors on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Bnai Torah vestry it was announced by Max Simon, chairman of the nominating committee. Dr. B. W. Abramson of Columbus, Ohio, president of the Ohio Valley Zionist Region is the guest speaker. Shoolem Ettinger will install the new officers. 3 Join JEA Faculty, All Lived -In Israel
Three teachers will join the faculty of the Jewish Educational Association. David Spottheim, one of the new teachers, is a native of Israel and a graduate of the University of Tel Aviv. He came to the U.S. three years ago on the teachers exchange program and taught at the Jewish community school in Syracuse, N.Y., while he continued his studies at Syracuse University. Yoel Berman, another JEA teacher, was born in Europe, raised in Israel and emigrated to the U.S. He is a graduate of the University of Tel Aviv and has a master’s degree from Columbia University. He is also a graduate of the Herzlia Hebrew
Teachers College. Berman has been teaching in West Orange, N.J. The third new staff member is Kurt Pauker who came from Israel a few years ago to study in the U.S. He attended University of Cincinnati and received his training as a teacher at the Teachers Training School conducted by the Bureau of Jewish Education in Cincinnati. The new members of the faculty join Arieh Lor, Gary Posner, and Mrs. Frieda Lor. The JEA kindergarten and nursery school is directed by Mrs. Frieda Lor who is assisted by Mrs. Marjorie Lepp, Mrs. Joanne Koplow and Mrs. Dorethella Wallace.
Rosenbaum To Play For Aspen Benefit Concert Victor Rosenbaum will perform Bach.
two works for piano at a joint recital for the benefit of the Indiana Scholarship Fund for the Aspen Music School. The recital will be at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 N. Meridian, at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening, Sept. 12. Also performing are Ruth McAllister and Damiana Bratuz, pianists. and Gray Gray, clarinetist. The program for the evening is: English Suite in A minor by
Fantaisie in F minor, Op. 49 by Chopin. _ Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet and Piano by Schumann. Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet by Stravinsky. Premiere Rhapsody by Debussy. Sonata in E major, K. 292 by Mozart. Sonata in E major. Op. 109 by Beethoven. The public is invited. A reception at the temple will follow the concert.
JEA Schedules Annual Meeting
New members of the board of directors will be elected at the annual meeting of the Jewish Educational Association on Sept. 9. in the Domont Auditorium. 6711 Hoover Rd. N. Wiliam Weinstein, chairman of the nominating committee, will present a slate for the elections. City Of Hope Party Sept. 11 The Indianapolis Chapter of the City of Hope will hold a “Desert Casino” membership party at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Glendale Auditorium. There will be no charge for members and guests.
