Participants discussed the plans of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Beersheba. Opinions expressed at the meeting urged a reversal of the policy of Israel’s planning authorities until now, to lay out quiet residential neighborhoods in green surroundings, scattered at some distance from the commercial and industrial centers for the

city.

Shaul Shaked, head of the Jerusalem District Planning team in

and the Ein Karem area reserved for sc-nery loving villa builders,

asserted Shaked.

Prof. Aaron B. Horowitz, head of the Technion’s Town Planning Department, said that a revised plan for Tel Aviv must be drawn up taking into account that the city may attain one million population in the foreseeable furture.

Should There Be Women Rabbis? Question Splits Reform Leaders

PHILADELPHIA (P-O) — S u b • ject of many a discussion at meet* ings of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the question of women in the Reform rabbinate has been re-hashed by a Philadelphia Anglo-Jewish newspaper.

The Philadelphia Jewish Times, after a poll of ten Reform rabbis, reports that only two felt women should be ordained “in order to actually perform the full duties of a rabbi.”

by Rabbi Tiber Fabian of the Ivy Ridge Jewish Community Renter. Said he, “It’s a crazy idea, completely against Jewish tradition. Although I believe in the equality of the sexes, I am against women rabbis.”

Three of those questioned felt that to a limited extent a woman could be permitted to handle some of the rabbi’s less ritualistic duties. Thre others gave unqualified “No’s” to the question. One felt the issue too complicated a one to be disposed of in one abrupt statement and another replied “no comment.”

Rabbi Harold B. Waintrup of Old York Road Temple Beth Am, said: “I am in favor of women rabbis to a limited extent; the teaching of youth, for example,

could be well handled by a worn- , an. I am against a woman taking pQf jQI6
