'Inevitability' Of Possible War Hit By Rabbi New York (WNS) An appeal to the nation “not to succumb to the feeling that war is inevitable” and to beware of the idea that »he search for peace is “synonymous with appeasement” was sounded last week in a year-end statement by Rabbi G. Minda of Minneapolis, president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. At the same time Rabbi Minda rebuked the Soviet Union for its “brazen” rupture of the moratorium on nuclear testing and its resumption of tests in the atmosphere. The Rabbi said that “it is not to be wondered that the American public approached the year 1962 with a sense of frustration,” as evidenced by the “em* phasis placed on fall-out shelters.” I But frustration, he warned, “is not the mood for a nation” to adopt in coping with problems of war
and peace.
Voicing hope for “a complete international ban on the testing and i use of nuclear weapons,” the statement asserted that espousal of the | dictum “seek peace and pursue it” need not ‘ necessarily be synonymous with appeasement nor the abandonment of the ideals by ( which we as individuals and as a •nation live.”
