Packed-In Sweetness Although delayed by the El A1 strike, juicy Israeli melons such as are shown being packed above, ai’e making a hit in the English and other European markets. Succulent, with a green-gold skin, the melons called "Ogen” after a kibbutz near Natanya, have become a major item of export’. The odd way in which the melons are grown, under plastic covers, adds to their early ripening which makes it possible for them to reach markets first. Five tons of the melons were delayed at Lydda by the 6-day strike of the El A1 air crews, which has now been settled.
