Laughton Portrays Rabbi Charles Laughton, world-fam-ous as an actor of many roles, Wednesday night portrayed a Jewish rabbi in the Warsaw Ghetto on WISH-TV’s “Playhouse 90.” In'a play entitled "In the Presence of Mine Enemies,” the plight of a rabbi and his family under the Nazi heel in the last days of the infamous Ghetto was depicted. It was a story of the rebellion of the rabbi’s ‘ son (played by Arthur Kennedy) against the docile faith of his father, whose prayers could do nothing for his people under Nazi rule. Finally, the thirst of the son for vengeance is reconciled with the rabbi’s humanitarianism, which permitted forgiveness even for a young German who rejected the barbaric teachings of his leaders. The play was written by Rod Sterling, and also starred George MacReady, Oscar Homulka, Susan Kroner, and Robert Redford.
