Israel Press Hitsle’s Request to N.Y. Dockworkers to End Waterfront Strike
TEL AVIV (P-O) — It would be ridiculous to believe, the Israel daily Lamerhav commented, that mightly America is unable to stand, up to the Arab boycott. The paper finds it hard to be-
lieve that America faced eco nomic chaos because of the Arab counter-boycott. That might be the impression of an innocent bystander from President Eisenhower’s latest attempt to save Nasser, Lamerhav stated. The paper said that Eisenhower’s request to the New York water front unions to end the strike simply lender? active support to Cairo’s anti-Israel boycott and embargo in the Suez Canal. THE RELIGIOUS newspaper. Hamodia, sees in Ike’s request to end the picketing an attempt to prove to the Arabs that the waterfront boycott does not reflect White House policy. The paper
fails to understand why the White House is so excited, since it is the Arabs, themselves, who will suffer if they boycott American shipping. The decision to send food gifts in non-American ships will only be interpreted in Cairo as an act of self-abasement and the Presidem will not, for long, be able to ignore the Senate’s re quest that he take economic measures against Nasser, the Hamodia commented.
