MINUTE MESSAGE JWF CAMPAIGN OFFERS CHALLENGE, OPPORTUNITY

By DAVID M. COOK

This year’s Jewish Welfai'e Federation campaign offers both a challenge and an opportunity to the community: A challenge because there is no "crisis” _ in the sense of a dramatic emergency in some particular area overseas. An opportunity because, more than ever, we have the chance to contribute towards the fundamental and basic needs of our people throughout the world. We are fortunate this year in having excellent and enthusiastic leaders in all divisions of our campaign. Fine plans have been laid for a fast, efficient campaign, concentrated in a period of one month. Preliminary meetings of leaders and workers at which precampaign commitments have been made 1 ' have assured the campaign of a good start. With few exceptions, the pattern has been a willingness on the part of everyone to increase over

last year’s giving.

I hope that the entire community will respond to the unquestioned need which exists and follow the pace set by

the leaders.

Women of Community Play Privileged Role In JWF Drive By MRS. MANUEL S. CASSEN Women in the Jewish Community are especially privileged to serve the Jewish Welfare Federation Campaign. As wives and mothers we need to think of the Federation in terms of people rather than statistics. Our satisfaction comes from the knowledge that through our efforts we can aid a stricken child, a desperate mother, a displaced family. "EVA,” WHOSE STORY will be dramatized at the women’s division brunch, Broadmoor Country Club, April 5, will be there in person . . . because the Joint Distribution Committee took her from a displaced persons camp

to a haven in Israel.

The JDC is only one of many agencies supported by the Federation devoted to serving humanity. The Federation, by its very nature, can accomplish what we cannot do alone. It can allocate funds where they are needed most.

We can help by raising those funds, by doing our individual

best.

THIS YEAR THE Federation neds $600,000 to meet minimum requirements all over the world. The plus giving from women, separate and apart from their husbands', shows they really care. Giving is a personal responsibility for each of us, as individuals. A little sacrifice, a personal luxury set aside, can mean the difference between life and death to someone like “Eva.”
