Senate Mourns Neuberger

WASHINGTON (P-O) — The Senate mourned Sen. Richard L. Neuberger. The Oregon Senator died last week at 47. A memorial service was con ducted for Neuberger at Temple Beth Israel in Portland. Neuberger apparently had overcome a long battle with cancer. He dedicated himself to back bills for medical research in the Senate. He devoted much of his time to raising funds for cancer research. He was the son of Isaac and Ruth Lewis Neuberger, Portland restaurant owners. His grandfa ther came to Oregeoh from Ger many in 1870. Benjamin Cohen Dies In New York NEW YORK (P-O) — Dr. Benjamin A. Cohen, former Under Secretary of the United Nations, died here. He was 63. Dr. Cohen has been closely connected with UN since its founding. After his retirement from tne UN secretariat in 1958, he was appointed by his homeland, Chile to its permanent delegation. U.S. Jewry Mourns Mrs. David M. Levy NEW YORK (P-O) — One of American Jewry’s outstanding women leaders, Mrs. David M. Levy, died. She was 67. She was a daughter of the late Julius Rosenwald, owner of Sears and Roebuck and founder of the Julius Rosenwald Foundation. She was the first chairman of the National Women’s Division of t& United Jewish Appeal. She was active in a wide-ranging variety of charitable and community organizations. She was named “Outstanding Jewish Woman of 1946“ by the National Council of Jewish Women. President Truman appointed her to the executive bommittee of the Mid-Century White House

, Fiorello! , Writers Plan New Show Widely hailed as one of the finest young song-writing teams of the current musical theatre, Composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, of “Fiorello!“ now established on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre as the number one show of the season, are working on the score of a new musical comedy called “Tenderloin,” the musical will be presented by the “Fiorello!” producers, Robert E .Griffith and Harold S. Prince next October.
