Center, Purdue to inaugurate gg Level iaiws at JK

A new program of college-level non-credit courses for adults will be inaugurated Monday and Tuesday. Feb. 8 and 9 when the Jewish community center, in cosponsorship with the Indianapolis Center of Purdue University begins two 10-week adult courses at the center. Offered will be “The Inside on Investments” and “Freud Revisited,” courses on personal investment programs and current theories of human behavior, both available to center members “THE INSIDE on Investments” begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 8. It offers a study of the stock market, with emphasis on types of securities, the operation of the stock exchange, how securities are bought and sold. It will also delve into how to read the financial page, interpreting financial statements, and planning personal investment programs. The course instructor is Richard Gervais, security analyst with the Merchants Na tional Bank. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he has done considerable work in securities research. “FREUD Revisited,” starting at 8 p.m. Feb. 9, is a review of current ideas in psychology and sociology about human behavior Lectures, plus discussion and assignments from inexpensive reading materials, will make up the class format. It will be taught by Charles Robert, civilian employee in personnel management. He has a B.S. in economics, and M S. in sociology both from Oklahoma State University, and he has done extensive graduate work in sociology and psychology at the

University of Iowa and Indiana University. Both classes will run weekly for 10 weeks. Fee for each course is $10 per person, or $15 for a max i ied couple. Courses are open only to center members, and advance registration may be made by calling the center. A maximum of 25 people will be accepted in each class.

Congregation Knesses Israel’s board of trustees have unanimous ly re-elected Rabbi Raphael Slobo for a new' term of three years. Rabbi Slobo has served Knesses Israel for the past 12

years, prior to which time he served as'chief rabbi of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis in Palis, France. A native of Russia until 1912, and now a naturalized citizen of the

United States, Rabbi Slobo completed his studies at the famous Yeshiva Haefetz-Chaim at Radin, also studied at Rovna Yeshiva, under the tutelage of the Gaon Israel Sior. He also studied at the Yeshiva of Kolna, under the great Gaon Caplan, and x'eceived his Smiches, with the notation “Yayre, Yayre,” “Yodn Yodn.” Rabbi Slobo comes from a famhy of famous rabbis dating back over 300 years. He is the author of three books concerning the laws of kashrut. Some of his articles are published in the Hamaor, rabbinical monthly journal in New York.
