New Comedy Is Panned
Stage critics were unanimous in panning "A Mighty Man * Is He,” the Arthur Kober-George Oppenheimer comedy that opened this week at the Cort Theatre. A highly moral comedy and about sex, the plot is about a theatrical producer who is involved with a sophisticated mistress and a young blonde thal he acquired more recently. He also is mamed. Lone Jewish Family Practices Judaism Above Arctic Circle
By EVA SCHEER OSLO (P-O) — The head of the only Jewish family living beyond the Arctic circle turns out to be a political wheelhorse in his town — Narvik, Finland. Abel Fischer who lives in Nar vik with his wife and three children has served on the town council for years. A leading clothing retailer, the Fischers have unique problems in giving their children a Jewish education far beyond the Arctic circle. They try to instill their children with a sense of Jewishness by keeping a strong Judaic atmosphere in their home.
Tough To Become Jew In Israel HAIFA (P-O) — An Acre ritual slaughterer who converted a woman to Judaism 'and thus usurped the lawful authority of the Rabbinical Court will be trie'd by a special disciplinary committee of rabbis. The woman was converted by bathing in a mikve (ritual bath).

reports on how a segment of the young American generation gets a traditional upbringing in the numerous yeshivoth, which are not merely schools to produce rabbis for the Orthodox rabbinate but to instill in the young men a feeling to study the Tora with a goal of becoming spiritual leaders but for its own sake. The speakers are, in most cases, excellent orators and they reveal facts and hopes that are of concern to those who think in terms of the future of American Jewish youth. MOST OF New York’s yeshivoth are located in Brooklyn and as a generality require additional funds to run the school efficiently. However, they ar e doing a job which deserves the recognition of the Jewish community. Saturday evening is the annual banquet of the Gur Aryeh Hebrew Preparatory school. Gur Aryeh is now In its third year of existence and has a present enrollment of 60 students who pursue a Hebrew secondary curriculum as well as a regular four year high school program. RABBI YAAKOV PERLOW, Dean of the school, emphasized that "in a relatively short time Gur Aryeh’s scholastic attainments and its personalized method of instruction have won for it the praise and admiration of leading rabbis and educators. Yeshiva Tora V’Doath has Its annual dinner on Sunday evening at the Waldorf. The dinner will be a jubilee celebration of this yeshiva’s 42nd year in spreading Tora education on the American continent. o PREJUDICE IN ISRAEL The controversial problem of whether there is discrimination, in Israel against Jews from Arab countries will be discussed Wednesday evening at the Herzl Institute. An Israeli newsman and a representative of the Sephardic community will participate in the symposium. o Talk on Yiddish Writer And in the 92nd street "Y” on Monday evening Eugene Goodheart will give an appraisal of one of the outstanding contemporary Yiddish writers, Isaac Bash evis-Singer and some of his literary works.
High Fees For Dinner 'Attractions' Hit SOUTH ORGANGE, N. J. (P-O) — Rabbi Louis M. Levitsky of South Orange, N. J. blasted synagogues who pay hundreds of dollars for "vulgar attractions” for an affair but will pay an offensively low amount to a scholar because he doesn’t have the same "pulling power.”
