Dream Comes True For Singer Arlene Martel

By CYRIIXE MELROSE ME 4-1307 A dream came true last week for Arlene Martel, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Neubauer, 3029 Broadway. Miss Martel (her stage name) joined the Tommy Dorsey band in Washington, D.C., as their female vocalist. The b a n dleader, W a rren Covington, had heard her sing this summer. and a letter, a wire, and a phone call finally brought her the “big break.” Mrs. Neubauer relates that Arlene has been singing since the age of nine, and that her proud sister. Sheila Kaye, knows every detail of her career to date.

Arlene graduated from Indiana university in 1958, and was active in Hillel there, as well as singing with bands on campus. Since then, she has worked at WLWI, channel 13, and has appeared as vocalist with the Dave Baker band, and at local supper clubs. This summer she appeared in the annual jazz festival at French Lick. Now touring with the Dorsey band in the east, Arlene will sing with them in New York and Canada in the near future. We won’t be surprised to see her on a national TV show one of these days either. open house , * . Mr. and Mrs. Morris Rossen; 2206 Melody lane, Anderson, will honor their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Asher Buxbaum, Jerusalem, Israel, with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
