By N. PEARLROTH

DEAR MR. PEARLROTH: Can You give me the origin of my maiden name, Borock?—MRS. ROSE DUBINSKY, Brooklyn 30, N. Y. BOROCK—more correctly Borok—is a farfiily name of biblical origin. It was adopted in deference to a biblical hero of the same name referred to in Judges, chapter 4 verse 6. I am aware of one family in which this name ^ was adopted because of its secondary meaning of "splendor, a flash of lightning.” You failed to indicate the family’s country of origin. The. wrongly inserted "c” leads me to believe that it was Galicia as Germans usually reinforce a final "k” in this manner. ^ ^ DEAR MR. PEARLROTH: I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know the meaning of the name Frauwirth. My husband was born in Galicia.—MRS. SIDNEY FRAUWIRTH, New Bedford, Mass. FRAUWIRTH—more correctly Frohwirth—is a family name attributable to a profession. The trade involved is that of an innkeeper (Wirth). Wien your ancestor applied for a permanent family name in Austrian Galicia about 1789 he may have impressed the members of the name commission with his cheerful manner—or perhaps it was opposite of cheerful. Anyway the name they bestowed on him was the Glad Host and that is what your name means.
