TEEN TALK Continued from Preceding Page If an occasional quarter or 35 cents is given out, it usually goes flying into the bank. Strong, healthy boys and girls know that working around the house is good exercise, and thus enjoying doing their part. Mother needn’t worry about her charges running out in the middle of the job for miscellaneous reasons, such as phone calls, friends, or the pretty gin taking a sun bath in the next yard. 6FOR THESE and many other reasons it is hard to understand why more and more parents are moving into hotels, simply just running out on their children, or better yet not having an}' children to begin with.

By MAX H3GIT NEW YORK (NJP)—A Jewish twin second base combination is being carefully groomed by the New York Yankees on their farm clubs for near-future delivery to the Stadium. IIAIa (shortstop, Binghamton, Eastern league) and Stan Charnofsky (second base, Augusta, South Atlantic league) are two of the highest regarded prospects in the star-studded Yankee farm organizations. Being good businessmen as well as good baseball men, the Yankee front office realizes the tremendous pull a Jewish second base combination composed of twins would have through the turnstiles in New York City, with its large number of Jewish baseball fans. ASIDE FROM their box office potentialities, the Charnofskys have been tagged as “not for sale” at the present time, on their playing ability alone. Both are outstanding, having been selected to the all-star teams of their respective loops. Graduates of the University of Southern California in 1952, they have played in the Yankee organization continually except for 18 months of service with the Army in 1954 and 1955. While in college, Hal was chosen on the All-America baseball team in 1952 while Stan copped the second basemen honor on the Pa-

May Piay in Yankee Stadium Twins, Stan (left) and Harold Charnofsky may yet play in the Yankee Stadium, as the first Jewish twins to compete in the major leagues. They are shown sporting the outfits of Binghamton in the Eastern League, a Yankee farm team. Stan is now with Augusta in the South Atlantic League. The twins both graduated from the University of Southern California and have since been the property of the Yanks who long have sought a Jewish player of the first rank to be the idol of New York’s large Jewish population.

cific Coast Conference the same year. Even while playing baseball, they continued their education at USC and early this year, they received their master’s degrees. Both are substitute teachers in the Los Angeles school system. Their Russian immigrant parents, Sophia and Michael Charnofsky, had three girls and were hoping for a boy. Their joy knew no limits when on July 11. 1931, their fondest hopes became two-fold when the twins made their debut in Trenton, N. J. The family later moved to Los Angeles. Papa Michael is a longtime member of the Workmen’s Circle. Hal, the eldest by 20 minutes, is being considered as managerial timber by the Yankee bigwigs. They have been impressed by his educational background and baseball ability and have made overtures to have him remain with the organization when he finally hangs up his glove. Stan has been married for four years, but Hal is still an eligible bachelor. They live in Los Angeles during the off-sea-
son. Their hobbies are very much alike, showing a preference for good books, music and drama. BUT AT PRESENT their prime target is Yankee Stadium. So don’t be too shocked some day to hear Yankee sportscaster Mel Allen roll off something like this: “Charnofsky to Charnofsky to Skowron!” THAT’S quite a mouthful even for the glib Allen, but it’s also quite a combination.
