The POST and OPINION effort to plant at least 1250 trees in Isi'ael in honor of the state’s 10th year got a shot in the arm this week from Morris Weinglass, 2017 Marmion Ave., Bronx, N. Y. Mil. WEINGLASS has forwarded a total of $56 for 28 trees. Among the trees purchased through Mr. Weinglass is one by Stephen Schloss who was the youngest contributor to the P and O drive a year and a half ago to buy a $4000 ambulance for the Israel Red Cross, the Mogen David Adorn. Stephen is now 2 years old. THE P AND O drive is part of a national campaign to plant an additional million trees in Israel in honor of the 10th year. The slogan for the effort is •Ten Trees for Ten Years in Israel" and it is hoped that readers will purchase the 10 trees as their personal participation in this glorious anniversary of the Jewish state. Smaller purchases at $2.00 per tree will also be most welcome, however. Mr. Weinglass’ letter, printed below, is almost poetic in its outlining of the purpose of the campaign. “Enclosed is $56 toward the purchase of trees in Israel. We feel that this is the best ‘gift’ in honor of our • homeland’s tenth anniversary. “As Americans and Jews we strongly understand the need for a program such as the J.N.F., for the planting of trees serves the double purpose of soil conservation as well as a full utilization of the land. “It is indeed a beautiful memorial for deceased loved ones and a tribute to the living so honored. We sincerely hope that this

drive will be a perpetual one. We shall continue our collecting." IN LISTING the purchases in our issue of Aug. 22, we showed two trees bought by Mrs. Barney Sandock of South Bend, Ind. This should have been correctly listed as being planted by Mrs. Sandock in honor of Mrs. Mamie Rosenstein, newly-elected president of the South Bend Chapter of Hadassah.

ISRAELI YOUTH SEBCS ESTATE OF NURI AS-SAID

TEL AVIV (NJP)—While an attorney sought to secure his legal rights to the fabulous estate of the wealthy late premier of Iraq, Nuri as-Said, a 17-year-old Jewish boy remained in hiding in Israel for fear of assassination by marauders.

Tough Getting Into Med School In Israel TEL AVIV (NJP)—If Jewish students in the U. S. think it is tough getting admitted into a medical school, then they ought to learn about conditions here. Whereas about one out of every two candidates for a med school in the U. S. is admitted, in Israel only one out of six applicants gets into the lone medical school, that of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

As-Said was liquidated in the recent Iraq coup. The fascinating story of Abraham Matsliach began with the marriage of his mother, a Jewess, to Sabah el-Said, son of Nuri. Following their cfivorce, Sabah married again, but he, his wife and children were murdered in the recent revolution.

MAX SELIGMAN, local attorney, plans to fly to London to contest the claim of the new Iraqi government to as-Said’s estate. Abraham’s mother brought him to Israel following her divorce, and kept from him any knowledge of his family until recently.

REINFORCE BORDER GROUP Thirty-five Habonim members who recently came to Israel have reinforced the sabra contingent in the 10-year-old Kibbutz Yizrael in the Jezreel Valley near the Jordan border.
