Early Plea Pays OH JEA ENROLLS 50 NEW STUDENTS
Fifty new students have already been enrolled in the Jewi s h Educational Association school in response to a plea for early registration, Mrs. Leo Gurvitz, JEA office manager, told The POST and OPINION this week. MBS. GUBVITZ noted that three-fourths of last year’s enrollment of 270 had already reenrolled. This compares with a total of four-fifths at the opening of the school last year. Here are the names of youngsters who have already been enrolled for the 1958-59 school year as beginners in the Hebrew school: JAY ABBAHAM, Ronald Budd, Fredericka Chowning, Stanley Avnaim, Michael Berger, Jared Bryan, Larry Cohen, Marty Cohen, Benjamin Cohen, Steven Cohen, Natalie Dock, Ilene Dorman, Lawrence Demont, Gary Fox, Morris Erwin, Myron Eshowsky, Roderick Glogower, Richard Goldstein, Eugene Izak, MABRY KAPLAN, Beverly Katzman, Nathan Kempler, Miles Kauffman, Keith Kauffman, Bonnie Maurer, Randolph Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Paul Nefouse, Florence Nelson, Michael Paul, Elliott Segal, Kenneth Rosenberg, Bruce Sklare, Alan Tavel and Terry Waldman. Many others are expected to complete their registration next week. DECLARING that the extent of early enrollment was “gratifying,” the JEA office manager
said that the greater part of the enrollment had been made among 7- and 8-year-olds. JEA classes are expected to open on Thursday, Sept. 4, the day after public schools open for the fall, but the JEA date is still tentative. THE JEA high school department is expected to be expanded to three years this year

from two last year. The school was begun two years ago. The JEA also expects to hold at least one of its classes at the Jewish Community Center this fall, Mrs. Gurvitz said. But confirmation is not yet final. USE OF JCC facilities is being asked, she said, because of crowded JEA facilities and to accommodate students who live closer to the Center. JEA adult classes also are in line for expansion. Mrs. Gurvitz noted that the JEA had received requests for adult evening classes and was considering them. JEA REGISTRATIONS may either be mailed in to the JEA at 3456 Central or phoned in at WAlnut 3-4551.
