of this subversive and anti-Jewish act. We believe firmly that the small clique now managing the Jewish community is guilty of this, in spite of repeated warnings. We do not accuse the majority of these leaders of being Communists or even sympathetic to Communism. We do accuse them, through inertia or otherwise, of succumbing to the pressure of a small and highly organized group, and of appeasing that group for the sake of a spurious “peace” which is inflicting harm upon Jewish children, Jewish parents, the Jewish community, and the ideals of Americanism and Judaism. Also, the Jewish Peoples Fraternal Order is now a part of the Jewish Community Council. This is reprehensible. A high school is subsidized by the Jewish community, and the Jewish Peoples Fraternal Order has been allowed to join formally in sponsoring this high school. This also is most harmful. We.call upon the Jewish Community Council and its Bureau of Jewish Education, as well as the Jews of Los Angeles generally, to give hee\l to this deplorable and dangerous situation, which has been called to their attention several times, and to root the unrepresentative Communists out of their councils. Americans and Jews must end such situations immediately and without delay. The Communists are aiming at world domination, through Soviet military aggression on the -one hand, and intellectual aggression or infiltration on the other. We must not be victimized by them. BROOKLYN COLLEGE STUDENT ADDS DETAILS TO KNICKERBOCKER STORY

Editor, National Jewish Post: In your issue of Oct. 29, you have an article dealing with the Knickerbocker case. In that article you refer to 16 Brooklyn college students who were reprimanded by Dean Maroney. As a Brooklyn college student, I feel that you should know some facts in addition to the facts printed in your paper. The first thing is that these students were reprimanded for writing a letter to the dean saying they did not intend to be intimidated by him. The dean then reprimanded them for lying and claiming that he intimidated the group. The next point is that although the group claims to have 80 members taking part in the rally (less than one per cent of the student body) it has been reported by nonpartisan bystanders that there were only about 40 people participating in the rally. The third point is that the rally took place during the Honors Day proceedings. It is only common courtesy to the college you attend and to the other 99 percent of the student body not to have any other project during Honors Day. It may be pointed out that the Brooklyn College Hillel Foundation called off a lecture given by a nationallyknown professor because it conflicted with the Honors Day proceedings. Another point is that although the rally was for the purpose of

asking for the ouster of teachers Knickerbocker and Davis, there were only two inconspicuous signs stating this. All the other signs were signs asking the student body to join Students for Wallace. The most important point is that this action was condemned by all other interested parties. In Brooklyn college it had been decided that action dealing with Knickerbocker and Davis should be taken through the Student Council, and all interested groups agreed to this. On the Monday before the rally there was a meeting of all interested parties, including Hillel, the Brooklyn college chapter of the National Association for the Advancement ©f Colored People. The only campus group that refused to cooperate was Students for Wallace. I therefore would like to let you know that the disciplinary action was not taken because of the Knickerbocker case but because of the Students for Wallace complete disregard for tyIRA HARKAVY • Ed. Note: NJP’s thanks to Brooklyn college Hillel Student Council member Harkavy for setting the record straight. The NJP story did note that the rally was held on Honors Day but lacked the information on the role of the Students for Wallace group. B. G.

DAVIDSON'S LETTER ALL LIES, PROOF COMING SOON, SAYS HOROWITZ

Editor, National Jewish Post: Rabbi Benjamin Schultz phoned me on Friday, Oct. 22, denying most emphatically that he had ever made such a statement about me as A. A. Davidson— who is entirely unknown to me— attributed to him in the Post of the same date. In fact, Rabbi Schultz referred to Davidson’s reference as “fantastic and shocking.” ^ Rabbi Schultz stated, moreover —-and he gave me permission to quote him—that "Davidson is a young eccentric, a bigoted, orthodox Jew in the narrow sense of the word.” As for the vital question under discussion, namely, the point originally raised by you in The Editor's Chair, Davidson remains mute. Instead, he indulges in an attack upon a man he has never met and forms an opinion based solely on hearsay. The “pure Mosaism” I advocated in my letter is certainly not “a la Horowitz,” as Davidson argues. It is Mosaism a la the Five Books of Moses, a la Torah Israel which he himself assumes to uphold but of which, apparently, he lacks a basic understanding. The Yorah is not a "Rabbinical Book.” It is the universal blueprint of life, hence a way of life for all mankind and certainly a comi |jn basis for a unified understanding of all Israel. .Davidson's letter is replete

with falsehoods. While I was connected with Moses Guibbory of Jerusalem, author of “The Bible in the Hands of Its Creators,” I am not the translator of this work. I helped with the translation. The major portion of fhe original English was first written by the author himself. Moreover, together with Boake Carter and a few others I directed the publication of the book. As for the other matters touched upon by Davidson in a deliberate misleading way, namely, the appearance of Moses Guibbory in the Sanhedrian Cave of Jerusalem prior to the world calamities of the past decade, his own claims and prophecies and the annointing ceremony in Jerusalem as well as the strange subtitles In the book—the whole background t<^ this almost incredible episode, which also involved the conversion to the Hebrew faith of the late Boake Carter, is fully told in my forthcoming book, "Thirty-Three Candles” which is scheduled for publication in December. I suggest that Davidson and others reserve their judgment on this matter until they have had the opportunity to examine this work. DAVID HOROWITZ, Editor United Israel Bulletin New York

Sidelight On Struggle Over Torah In Israel Editor, National Jewish Post: When Israel is fully established, let us hope that out of Zion will once more go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. For the rabbis of old violated the word of the Lord (Torah) by adding sacred days to Passover, Rosh Hashonah, Shavuoth and Succoth. These added days were not spoken by God . . . The rabbis went still further by adoption of the seventh month of Rosh Hasjionah as the first of the month of the New Year. The Lord told Moses at the going out of the children of Israel, the period of Passover should be the beginning of the month. They even added two lights to the divine candelabrum, for in the majority of synagogues the candelabrum has nine lights instead of seven. All these violations were done, say the rabbis, for the love of the Lord of Israel, with the object of not violating the exact time of the Holy Days in Israel for those Jews living among the nations, which spells boloney. Let us hope this present burden upon Israel will be done away with, so the voice of God will once more be heard in the State of Israel, and from there this divine word will bring light to all flesh, including the Jews. In those days the Lord will be known as one, so His name will be one. HARRY GREENBERG Brooklyn

Editor, National Jewish Post: It is with deep concern and grave anxiety that I read in the Oct. 22 issue of The National Jewish Post the statement given to Eric Johnston by Dr. Abba Hillel Silver of his repudiation of a boycott of British movies and products. If Dr. Silver Is inclined to make known that Zionists have no connection whatsoever with the Sons of Liberty boycott committee, that is his privilege. Nevertheless, as a leader in Zionism, I fear he has done the cause and Israel an irreparable harm. Can Dr. Silver deny or condone the fact that the latest Egyptian attack in the Negev and the breaking of the truce was motivated and inspired by Great Britain? It seems that to all appearances he is fast losing his fighting spirit which he so ably displayed in the past. I am not so sure at this time that the rank and file of Zionists will be so disciplined as to take heed of Dr. Silver’s statement. I know I am expressing the opinion of a great number of my fel-low-Jews, whether as individuals or through organized committees, the fact that the boycott of^British goods and movies will go on wih greater force and Impetus. We do not so quickly forget the treachery and injustices of a Bevin. (MRS. MAX) RUTH L. BELARSKY New York City

Jews In Israel Automatically Citizens TEL AVIV (JTA)—The proposed citizenship and naturalization laws for the state of Israel provide for automatic citizenship for every person residing in the Jewish state on the day that the legislation is passed, Minister of Justice Dr. Felix Rosenblueth revealed at a press conference this week. Residents of Israel holding citizenship in other countries will be able to become naturalized citizens by declaring their readiness to accept Israeli citizenship and by renouncing their foreign allegiance, Dr. Rosenblueth stated. Non-Jews living in Israel, and those resident in areas which may in the future be included in the Jewish state, the Israeli Minister said, are also eligible for Israel citizenship. Palestinians living abroad who wish to adopt Israeli citizenship will be able to do so within 12 months of the law's passage, he said.

BALTIMORE:—The first ship of the new American-Israeii Shipping Co. arrived at the Port of Baltimore last week to load 8000 tons of wheat for Palestine.

NEW YORK—More than 3000 persons paid tribute to Dr. Israel Goldstein this week in a special service honoring his 30th anniversary as rabbi of Congregation B’nai Jehurun and his forthcoming -departure to Israel as treasurer of the Jewish Agency.
