Zionists To Hear Joseph Goldberg Special T E R R E H A U T E — Joseph Goldberg of New York, chairman of the National Membership Committee, will be the guest speaker for the open Zionist meeting at 8 p. m. Sunday, May 18, at Temple Israel. Rabbi Leonard J. Mervis will preside. Bible Class Siyum—The annual Siyum of the Bible group will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Sunday school rooms of Temple Israel. Under the leadership of Rabbi Leonard J. Mervis, the group has studied the narrative and legal portions of the five books of Moses, with the exception of the Priestly Code, which will be studied next year. Bluniberg Heads Community Chest — Morris Blumberg was elected first vice president of the Terre Haute Community Chest at a meeting held last week.
Gary Noams Loss Of Harry Gordon, 82 Special GARY—The entire community felt the loss of Harry Gordon, 82, founder of H. Gordon and Sons department store, who died on Monday, April 21. He was a leader in the city’s business life for more than two decades. To hundreds of boys and girls who visited the store Mr. Gordon was known as “grandpa.” Mr. Gordon was accustomed to sit in a large chair on the first landing of the stairway off the main floor of his store and there he would greet scores of people, engage children in conversation and exchange jokes with his friends. Mr. Gordon came to Chicago from Lithuania at the age of seventeen. In 1899 he opened a small general store in Whiting, Ind. He became a downtown merchant in Gary in 1923. He was a member of the Commercial Club, the Gary Chamber of Commerce, Temple Beth El, the B’nai B’rith and the Elks. He is survived by three sons, three daughters, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

William Stein, 66, Dies at South Bend Spprlnl SOUTH BEND—William Stein, 66, died in Memorial hospital Sunday, May 3. Funeral services were held Monday, followed by burial in Hebrew Orthodox cemetery. Rabbi Aaron M. Rine officiated. Surviving Mr. Stein are his wife; a son, David; a daughter. Rose Bingaman, and five grandchildren, all of South Bend.

Central Hebrew Women To Close With Party A luncheon and card party at 12:30 p. m. Wednesday will close the season for the Sisterhood of the Central Hebrew Congregation. The luncheon will be held in the synagogue vestry. Mrs. Zena Davis and her committee are in charge of the luncheon. A program will follow, and the remainder of the afternoon will be devoted to a card social. Reservation may be made by calling Mrs. Nandor Fruchter or Mrs. David Bloom. Meyer Nickbarg Dies; Resident Here 40 Years Meyer Nickbarg, 50, died Saturday, May 3, in his home, 553 Agnes St., at which address he had operated a grocery for the past 10 years. Funeral services were held Monday at the Aaron-Rubcn Funeral Home, followed by burial in United Hebrew cemetery. Mr. Nickbarg, who had lived in Indianapolis 40 years, w-as a member of United Hebrew and Shara Tefilla congregations and the Zionist Organization. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Ida Nickbarg; three brothers, Bernard of Indianapolis, Joseph of Buffalo, N. Y., and Max NFkbarg of Miami, Fla., and a sister, Miss left Nickbarg of Philadelphia, Pa.

Israel Goldberg Dies Sprrlal SOUTH BEND—Word has been received here of the death in Chicago of Israel Goldberg, who owned and operated a clothing store in Mishawaka until 1936. He had been ill five years. His wife and two sons survive.
