This and That
The Kirshbaum Day Camp News had a “Trotting Poll” last week and two of the questions should make Gallup begin to worry about competition too. The first question, addressed to boys only, inquires: “Do you like the blond, brunette or redhead type? Who do you think is the best looking member of the Day Camp? Then the girls are asked: “Do you like the sports boy type or the handsome sissy type? Who do you think is the best looking boy in the Day Camp? • • » Results show that Betty Sutherlin led in the number of votes for the best looking member of the camp and Isaac Nisenbaum was adjudged the best looking boy. Also in the voting on blonds versus brunettes versus redheads, the brunettes won. There may be some morals attached to the above decisions, but we haven’t time or intelligence to figure it out, so we’ll leave you to make your own ded uctions.
* * • * Remember the discolored eye we told you about that adorned the noble visage of Dr. Nathan Hantman following that automobile mishap. Well, it seems that Dame Misfortune is not satisfied yet. Nate was out at Speedway playing his regular Sunday morning eighteen holes and stepped up to the No. 1 tee for his first swat of the day. Wham! He hit the ball and did it travel! But poor Nate, in expending all that prodigious force, pulled a ligament in his back and was in bed for three days, and definitely off of the golf course for at least a month. * * * * Talking about the injured list, there’s Dr. Bernard Hyman, who returned from that trip east with his left leg swathed in bandages, the result of too much sunburn. Bernie said his ankle was swollen to twice its size, but by the time I saw it only the swathes on his leg and the peeling skin were clues to his tilt with Old Sol. Then there’s Ed Cohn, w ho won’t see this because he, Doug Brown and Meyer Efroymson are at Lake George in the Adirondacks for their vacation. Ed has a trick wrist that pulls out of place every summer just about the time he’s ready to break a hundred. I don’t know about the score, hut I do know that Ed’s w rist slipped out of place just before the trio went east. * * * * * What do you think this is, a newspaper or a history book? Seymour Pinkus, who writes “People and Places” for The Post every other week, dropped us a note and said not to mention anything about the conclave last week-end at Lake Wawasee because he wanted to write it up in his column next week. Well, I wasn’t there, so I guess I’ll have to accede to his wishes, but don’t anyone tell the editor about it. • v *
Pretty soon there’ll be a Burt Kohn tradition in this city. Have you ever iMven up town with Mr. Kohn. Invariably on the most crowded streets at the busiest hours, regardless of whether his destination is Blocks or Ayres, or any other downtown point, he’ll drive his car right up to the door, and there, mirabile dictu, will be a parking spot. We normal human beings see a parking space three blocks from our destination and count ourselves lucky as we grab it. But not Burt. He’ll see a parking space just three or four doors from where he wants to go and pass it up with all the blase of the man who knows that exactly where he wants to go, there he’ll find a spot reserved for him. And there it is, too, darn it. I
