RED CROSS PAGEANT WAS A BIG SUCCESS
The Red Cross pageant, “The Red Cross of Peace,” was presented, free of charge, to a large audience at the Ellis theater on last Thursday evening, under the auspices of the, local chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa, as an opening to the Fourth Red Cross Roll Call, which is also being conducted by the Tri Kappas. Opening with the' call to the colors, by an unseen bugler, the prelude had for its theme, the Spirit of Humanity, personified by. Clara Barton, Florence Nightingale, a civil war veteran, a Spanish-American war veteran and two civil war nurses. Then came the visualization of the Red Cross in War, with the departments of Junior Red Cross, Sewing, Education, Surgical Dressings, Knitting, Nursing and Overseas Personnel, represented. This was followed- by the presentation of a commission front' Columbia to the Red Cross to carry on its work after the signing of the armistice. An American soldier, returning from war-torn Europe,/sees the Red Cross of Peace and asks if there be need for her in what he con-; aiders a land of freedom and comfort. The Red Cross of Peace then shows him the public health nurse ministering alike to the old and young; Home Service helping the soldier and sailor to adjust themselves to civil life; the Health Center with its teachings, represented by the Public Health nurse and a group of children doing the “tooth brush drill”; the disaster scene showing how the Red Cross rises to the reJ lief of in time of calamity, represented by a group of tornado victims being attended to by the Red Cross physician, nurse, Boy and Girl Scouts and the Red Cross rep-j resents tive; the Junior Red Cross with the ideal type of represented by a mother and children; ;the homeless children arid finally the group of happy who danced and played with the homeless ones, spreading their hap?
piness over the world. The soldier, astonished, asks how the work shall be carried on, and community answers with response through the roll call. The pageant was accompanied by appropriate nusic and its dramatic appeal brought home to the audience what a great work confronts the Red Cross.
