GOODRICH RESUMES CONTROL OF PARTY

Indianapolis, Oct. 16.-—Governor Goodrich has takpn charge of the wavering Republican organization in Indiana, according to a statement given out here today, and has forced the leaders, much against their will, to fight out the campaign on state issues. The statement is as follows: “Governor Goodrich has resumed active leadership of the Republican party in Indiana after a quiescent period. He has accepted in behalf of his candidate, Warren T. McCray, the Democratic challenge that the issue in Indiana is Goodrichism and he has pledged his party to fight out the campaign along that line. "In an address at Muncie last Saturday Governor Goodrich took the reins from McCray aud announced to the voters of Indiana, that ‘the

record is made. It is our record and we must stand or fall by it.’ "The governor did more, however, than to assert his old time control of the destinies of his party. He made the keynote v for Mr. McCray and in no uncertain terms made it plain that the Republican gubernatorial candidate is running for election on the record made by the Goodrich administration. “In the course of a lengthy defense of his own administrative abilities Governor Goodrich confirmed reports that have been abroad that Mr. McCray was instrumental in obtaining the enactment of the patchwork tax legislation at the recent special session of the assembly. “Goodrich and McCray were billed to speak from the same platform at Muncie, thus publicly joining forces in their fight to perpetuate Goodrich-

Ism. It is worthy of note, however, that Goodrich did not come out openly for McCray until the latter began In his campaign addresses to defend the Goodrich tax law and the state highway commissioner’s expenditures. What promises has McCray made to enlist the strength of the Goodrich machine in his fight for election as governor of Indiana? The voters are entitled to know.
