JASPER COUNTY TOPS ’EM ALL

Excepting Lake and Tippecanoe Counties in Population Growth. The census bureau Saturday announced the population of the state of Indiana for 1920 as 2,930,544, an increase of 229,668, or 8.5 per cent. The population of Gary (revised) wae announced as 55,378, an Increase of 38,576, or 229.6 per cent. It previously was announced as 55,344. Other population figures announced included the following Indiana counties: Benton, 12,206, a loss of 482, or 3.8 per cent; Newton, 10,145, a loss of 360, or 3.4 per cent; Tippecanoe, 42,813, a gain of 2,750; Marion, 348,061, a gain of 84,400, of which 80,544 was in the city of Indianapolis; Warren, 9,699, a loss of 1,200, or 11 per cent; Clay, 29,447, a loss of 3,088, or 9.5 per cent; Dekalb, 25,600, a gain of 546, or 2.2 per cent; Knox, 46,245, a gain of 7,062, or 18 per cent; Laporte, 59,443, a gain of 4,646, or 10.1 per cent; Monroe, 24,519, a gain of 1,093, or 4.7 per' cent; Noble, 22,470, a loss of 11,539, or 6.4 per cent; Parke, 18,875, a loss of 3,349, or 15 per cent; Porter, 20,256, a loss of 284, or 1.4 per cent; Clark, 29,381, a loss of 789, or 2.9 per cent; Lake, (revised) 159,957, a gain of 77,093, or 93 per cent; Morgan, 20,010, a loss of 1, 171; Montgomery at 28, 490, a loss of 806; Whitle/, 16,892, a loss of 23K Most of the Incorporated towns in these counties showed an increase, the loss being in the country districts. It will be seen from the above report that while Benton, Newton, Porter and Warren counties, all in this congressional district, lost in population during the last decade, Jasper county (figures heretofore announced) made a gain of 917, which speaks mighty well for our county. Practically all the agricultural counties in this section of the state, except Jasper, lost in population. The population of Brazil, Clay county, is given at 9,293, a loss of 47.
