WOOD AND ANTI WOOD MEN
From Jasper County, as Disclosed by Vote in State Convention. The Jasper county delegates to the Republican- state convention last week were not a unit when it came to voting, It seems, as on the resolution -to instruct for Wood the "big four" delegates at largo to the national convention —and which barely got through by a mere seven votes —Jasper county’s nine delegates voted five for to four against such Instructions. In the vote to suspend the iron-clad rules—which the “old guard" had put across —as a preliminary to presenting the instruction resolution, the Jasper county nine voted six for suspension to three against. By the way, the Evansville Courier well says, of the selection of Watson, New,' Goodrich and Beveridge: "The Republican state convention selected four delegates at largo who pledged themselves to vote for Wood in the national convention. At the same time every one hnowa these four men will do all they can to prevent the nomtinatlon of the man they are voting for. It ia this kind of hyprocrisy in high places that disgusts the voters. It is the utter lack of sound conviction among those who gyp looked up to as leaders. Watsdn is no more for General Wood than la the Courier, yet he accepts the place of a delegate, and indeed seeks it, pledging himself to vote for the general.
