Jasper County Democrat, Volume 23, Number 15, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 19 May 1920 — DIDN’T WANT WOMEN ANYWAY [ARTICLE]
DIDN’T WANT WOMEN ANYWAY
In the Republican State Convention Last Week. The Republican says: “There were no women delegates to the Republican state convention, none asked to go from this county and possibly all realized that WOMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to sit in convention except where nominations for president and vice-president are being made.” There is no statute governing the qualifications of any person who shall sit in a political convention. The convention itself determines the eligibility of all delegates or persons presuming to be delegates, if their eligibility is questioned, and no one but the Republicans themselves could question the qualiflicatlon of a woman delegate in their recent state convention. The fact that there were no women delegates is conclusive evidence that the party wanted no women in their convention.
