FAIR OAKS Miss Amy Bringle came up from Lafayette and spent Sunday with home folks. Rev. Todd filled his regular appointment in the M. EL church Sunday evening. A C. Campbell went to Hammond Sunday evening where he began
Uncle James Thompson is suffering considerably these days with his afflicted limb. Watson Humes finished up assessing in this part of the township the first of the week. Bert and Leslie Warne planted about 15 acres of watermelons the first of the week. Mrs. James Campbell and children visited friends in Rensselaer from Monday until Tuesday. Neen Littlefield of Rensselaer came up and called on his tenant, W. L. Criswell, Sunday. James McKay writes his folks that he has arrived in Cuba. He is working as messman on a boat. Mrs. Dan Wood and daughter Edna of Newton county made a short call on Mrs. Bringle Tuesday evening. It is reported that John "Dewitt
will move to Hopkins Park in the near future to work on the section for his brother. clerical work for a large manufacturing concern. Mrs. William Geary, Aunt Hannah Culp and Sam Potts attended church at John Fenwick’s in Rensselaer Sunday afternoon. Jess Garrlott, Will Flrtz and Charles Hall, who had been working on a dredge in lowa, returned to Fair Oaks last week. John Thorn and family of Hammond drove down Sunday and made a short call on the Charels Halleck family, returning Sunday evening. Merle Miller, who had been working on the section the past month for Charles Barker, resigned and went back to Monon the first of the week. We have been having fine weather up to Monday night, when we were favored with a nice shower, after which it turned quite cool which made everybody anxious about the fruit. The trees are certainly heavily loaded with nice thrifty bloom.
LEE Arm Lewis’s health has been quite poorly during the past week. Miss Lona Jacks is doing housework for Mrs. Ephriam Gilmore. Miss Eva Hoult of east of Francesville has been visiting here the past week. Mrs. Ephriam Gilmore was taken sick Sunday night with pneumonia, but is better at this writing. Mrs. Nan Stiers, who has been away all winter visiting her children, is here now with her eon Roy and family. Ray Holeman and family of Butler came Sunday to attend the fuenral of Clyde Clark, returning home Tuesday. Oscar Jacks went to Detroit, Mich., Sunday night with some others from Monon to drive new cars through for a company at Monon. Mrs. C. A. Holeman, who received a stroke of paralysis Nov. 20 last and had never been away from her home since, was taken to her daughter’s, Mrs. J. H. Culp’s, last Monday for a visit. She can walk now with the aid of crutches.
Clyde Clark, who had been afflicted with cancer of the stomach for a long time, died at hie home last Friday evening. The funeral was held from the church Monday at 2 p. m.. Rev. Rankin of Chicago preaching the sermon to a very large assemblage of relatives and friends. Rev. Brandenburg of Morocco and Rev. D. E. Noland of Marshall, also assisted in the funeral services. Interment in Osborne cemetery.
VIRGIE Elvin Potts is working for W. W. Zellers. 4 Ruby Wells is on the sick list this week. R. F. Williams was a Rensselaer goer Tuesday. Charles Florence visited home folks over Sunday. Charles Wiseman visited home folks over Sunday. Vernon Harrington brought his Ford up Sunday for repairs. Miss Bertha Florence visited home folks Saturday and Sunday. The ice cream social held here Saturday evening was well attended. Mrs. T. J. Mallatt called on Mrs. C. A. Harrington Tuesday afternoon. William Potts has been helpring his grandson, Ray Potts, the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Firman Pettet called on W. W. Zellers and Sunday evening. Ardath and Robert Cover called on the C. A. Harrington family Monday evening. Lonzo Wiseman, who was recently operated on for appendicitis, is improving nicely. W. W. Zellers and family took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Mallatt Sunday. Louis Gratner of Barkley visited the Ancil Potts family Saturday evening and Sunday. Miss Patience Florence got a bad fall Saturday evening which laid her up for a few days. Mrs. Blanch Allsworth of Hebron visited the George Cover family Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Estel Marion and daughter Ruth and Mr. Terpstra visited home folks Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ancil Potts and Isaac Wells and family called on Ray Potts and family Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. James Wiseman, Esther and Kenneth Wiseman and Dr. Norby went to Remington Sunday. The Virgie Sunday school has begun practicing on a program for Children’s day, which will be held at the church June 7. W. W. Zellers and son Dean, Misses Elsie and Jessie Zellers, 'I. J. Mallatt and Joe Fay were Rensselaer goers Tuesday. Don’t forget the Virgie Sunday school every Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Everybody come and help make the school a success.
