Monday is also the last day for filing mortgage exemptions. J. W. Culp and son of Gillam township were down on taxpaying business Thursday. Don’t forget that Monday is the last day for paying the spring installment of taxes. The house vacated by Mrs. James West and owned by the Jasper county hospital will be fitted up for use of the nurses at the hoepital. What has become of the man who told us that our taxes would be no higher under that notorious new tax law? Lots of taxpayers are laying for him with p. elm clubs. The county commissioners meet in regular monthly session Monday; also the county board of education, at which time the latter will report on the enumeration in the various school corporations. The first annual’ meeting of the American Legion will be held Saturday night, May 1, 1920, at 7:30 p. m., at the law library on the third floor of the court house. Election of officers and important business. All ex-service men invited. —Advt. J. W. Fesler, one of the Republican trio of candidates for the nomination for governor, spoke here at 12:45 yesterday at the court house. It is generally conceded that Fesler will be nominated in the primaries next Tuesday. Mr. Fesler visited the city schools and met many adherents here. He left a very favorable impression with the Republicans here, it is said.
