HOPE FOR INCLUSION OF ROUTE
From Montmorenci to Wolcott, Bays Lafayette Journal. Formal approval by Governor James P. Goodrich of the state highway commission's road building program establishes 49 routes in Indiana, one of which is the so-called College route, connecting with Bloomington and passing' through Crawfordsville and Greencastle, thus linking up four Important college towns. This gives Lafayette a prominent position on a north and south highway that should be a popular and much-used thoroughfare.
However, the present highway system program omits Lafayette from the main Jackson highway connecting Indianapolis and Chicago but there is reason to believe that this portion of the road program will be changed to restore Lafayette to its position on the Jackson route. The governor, in approving the highway commission’s report, did so with reservations, and It Is very likely that there will be a modification of the plans to the extent of including in the program the link of road between Montmorenci and Wolcott which would give Lafayette what it wants.
The present program omits this link, which means that the principal routes connecting Indianapolis and Chicago are the Dixie highway which runs south of Lafayette and the new route through Delphi and Monticello which runs north of Lafayette. However, the omission of the Montmor-enci-Wolcott link is not regarded as a final move. The mattfer is to be re-considered by the full commission and a supplemental report submitted to the governor. The present east and west route through Lafayette extends from Boswell, Benton county, to a point east of Rossville, Clinton county, where it loins with the north and south highway running from IndianapoMs and Frankfort to Delphi.
