The WEEK'S DOINGS
FOUR CORNERS L. C. Asher, who has been on the sick list for the past two weeks, Is around again. Spring is here, less the poetry, and if the first day rules the month the farmers can begin to sow oats soon. Gerd Hendrickson Is buzzing wood for Myers, Clager and Fisher. This will finish the season’s wood sawing for Gerd. There seems to be a scarcity of good seed oats this spring in this locality, and the price the highest ever known. The Myers family, who live on the Mrs. Asher farm in Kankakee township, are sick with smallpox, but are getting along reasonably well, is the report. Neal Clager has purchased a second-hand Ford runabout. Well, Neal is one of our hand-me-down bachelors and that kind of a car is good enough for him. Gilbert Stembel, npw stationed at Camp. Sherman, 0., was home over Sunday, returning Monday to camp. Gilbert makes a fine looking soldier. Sure, we are proud of him. The sale of new cars is slacking Up. No doubt on account of the
advance in price. The builders of cars are trying to see just how far the people will go in the car craze. Warren Boyle, the rural carrier out of Tefft, who has been living in the R. E. Davis property the winter, will move to his own farm east of Wheatfield the first of the month. Capt. Rockwell, who for several years made his home at Marion, at the Soldiers’ home, died and was buried at his former home at San Pierre last Monday forenoon. One more of the old soldiers has answered the call. We beard an old-time Republican say a few days ago that at one time he had taken pride in saying that he voted the g. o, p. ticket, but now when he was obliged to confess to voting it he turned his back to the crowd, hung his head and walked away. The Review items from Tefft would rather impress a person with the idea that since Dan Gross and family moved to the Senator Newberry state the sun would refuse to shine on Kankakee township and her prosperous farmers, but the fact has been that the sunshine is on the increase and the people are correspondingly happy. Yes, the north Jasper boys are busy now organizing a ball team that will hang the scalps of all the other local teams at their belt. This season the boys are home from across the pond and are seeking other fields to conquer. They need new suits and other’ expenses that go to make up a No. 1 team. You will find a booster club list at Fendig’s and Jensen’s stores. A donation, please, to help start a successful year for the boys. Right you are. Thank you. Saturday’s Democrat quoted eggs 35c; butterfat 67c. Prices in the north part of the county: Eggs 42c, butterfat 72c. In 1918 Wheatfield and Tefft led Rensselaer several cents in the price of eggs and butterfat, but last year there was a cog loose somewhere and Renssel- 4 aer led the market, after .Wheatfield made the start and led for a month or six weeks, then dropped back and took third or fourth place. Towns north of here paid 5 and 6 cents per dozen more for eggs than the farmers received here. A good way to kill your town by this kill-me-quick plan.
