InlerostlngPsragraphsFromtho Various Departments OF JASPER COUNTY CAPITOL Legal News Epitomized —Together With Other Notes Gathered by Ws From the Various County Offices. Attorney John Greve, Clifford Fairchild and Clifford Hannaway were down from Demotte on business Monday. There were 18 marriage licenses issued last month against 16 for the proceeding month and 12 for the corresponding month of 1919. New suits filed: No, 9181. Donald L. Morrell vs. Emory Barry et al; foreclosure of imtortgage. Demand $9,043.60, Interests, costs, etc. Marriage licenses issued: x Feb. 28. Glen H. Feb. 28, Ernest Garriott of Jasper county, aged 25 Nov. 11 last, farmer, and Orabelle King of Rensselaer, aged 24 Dec. 22 last, housekeeper. First marriage for each. Married by Rev. W. T. Barbre. A petition is being circulated asking Jasper county to spend $75,000 for a memorial building in honor of her soldiers in the late world war. The Democrat believes this is a matter that should be postponed indefinitely. The soldiers are not asking for it, so why burden them with a debt that will take~many years to pay, for bonds would have to be issued and these same soldiers are the taxpayers of the future who would have t'hefee bonds to pay off. Instead of doing something FOR the soldiers it would be doing something TO theun) to borrow SIOO,OOO to build a thing we do not need, have no use for and would only tend toward keeping up the high prices and scarcity of labor to build at this time. Our court house debt will not be paid off for nearly 20 years yet, and with the demand for money for roads, bridges, school houses, etc., we can well afford to wait awhile at least for this building.
The county commissioners met in regular session Monday, but were unable to finish the business of the term in one day and came back yesterday.
