SHORT BITS OF THE UNUSUAL Happenings in the Nearby Cities and Towns—Matters of Minor Mention From Many Localities* FIRE RAZES MUDLAVJA HOTEL Popular Health Resort Burned to Ground Early Sunday. Kramer, 'Meh. 1.- —'Fire couulpletely destroyed the Mudlavia Springs (hotel and sanitarium, one of the most popular health resorts in the United States, early yesterday. There were 85 guests housed *in the structure but-it is believed all Miss Anna Reinhart, 18, of Pesotum, IIL, was badly injured by jumping 'from a third story The conflagration, which was of unknown origin, started in the store room number 12, on the second floor. A maid went to the room to get sarnie linen and when she opened the door was greeted by a sihower of flame. She ran through the halls shouting fire, and a volunteer department was quickly organized. The establishment furnished its own water ipressure, but by the time the volunteers got into action, the flames had licked their way up the elevator shaft and also an air shaft and were rapidly spreading throughout the frame structure. An appeal was sent to Attica and Williamsport tor aid, but before help could arrive the entire struc.ture was dpotned. In less then an helf hour the fire had spread to all parts of the frame building, and was eating its way to the brick addition, erected six years ago. The loss sustained by the iMudlavla Springs camipany was estL mated by William C. Kramer as $250,0.00 which is largely covered by insurance. Besides the loss to the company each of the 85 guests sustained personal losses that will aggregate approximately $50,000. The largest individual loser was Mrs. H. L. Kramer. It is ,said her loss will reach about $25,000 in jewels, clothing and furniture. Mrs. Joseph W. Keenan, wife of a Detroit furniture manrrfacturer, is said to have lost jewels and clothing valued at $15,000. Mr. and Mrs. William 8. Hawse of Oak Park, 111., were also heavy losers, as were Mrs. H. S. Wright, wife of a Chicago restaurant proprietor; Charles Keller of Chicago; M#s. Richard Carton of Earl Park; Mrs. J. C. Fairbrother of Toronto, Canada, and Dr. and M’rs. Muller Blair of Decatur, 111.
