Abel spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Hell. "Laugh and the world laughs with you’’; scowl and you’re in good company. Wm. Jasperson purchased a brand-new Ford from the local dealer Tuesday. The teachers will all leave lor their homes this week for a two weeks’ vacationH. Minor decided it was a case of freeze out or cut wood, so he bussed his winter’s nesday. Miss Anna Hunslcker, who is attending college at Bloomington, arrived home Monday to spend her vacation. George Belcher is going to have a sale of household goods the 20th, and they expect to leave soon for California. Co- Supt. M. L. Sterrett spent Thursday of last week at the Tefft school and visited over night with Duggleby’s. Wm. E. DeArmond was In Tefft Monday. He and Don Peregrine returned to school at Valparaiso Tuesday morning, after a week’s vacation. Will Jefferies always brags about what a good driver he is, but now the joke is on Jeff. Thd Ford went into the ditch just north of Sands’ corner, but he blames it on the slick roads. Charley Duggleby has gotten tired of pa telling him to come home at a certain hour with the Ford and has decided it is best to have a car of his own so he could stay longer. Therefore he bought one from Wm. Jasperson Saturday; Well, Possum Run, J, can’t quite understand what you meant in speaking about me removing my glasses, but think you mistook my brother for me, as I have seven brothers, and I am the only one of family of eight that didn’t have weak eyes. So that is another misbut if you are certain you have seen me, it surely had to be in your dreams. ~ FAIR OAKS Health is generally quite good in our burg, other than a few colds. Uncle Pete Wood and son Charles are sprpting a brand-new Ford nowadays. Still there are more to ?It'is rumored that Ben Richards /han bought property in Roselawn and (Will move there in the near future. Mervin Dunn moved out onto the Lawler ranch a few days ago, and Dora Brouhard moved into the house vacated by him. Jess Garriott and wife, who had been out in lowa since last spring working on a dredge boat, returned home a few days ago. We have been having some zero weather the ipast week and those, that are contemplating puttlg up icen had better not put it off too long, as the weather is very unreliable. z „ < * Carmi Mlles left here the first of the week for Kansas City, Mo., to take a course in automobile mechanism, preparatory to entering' his uncle’s garage as a machinist at Bowling Green. Carrier Bringle went to Roselawn the first ,of the week to get his horses shod, preparing for the bad weather we are likely to have some time soon. “Prepare ye, sos the tiem is coming-” Joe Brown and wife and Mrs. J. C. Thompson were called by tele* gram to Kankakee the latter part of the week to the bedside of Harry Keller, who had undergone an operation for appendicitis and was not expected to live, but the last report was that they thought • he would pull through alright. WALKER CENTER Walter (Hershman was at Kniman Saturday. m John Bartish is spending a few days in Gary. Walter Hershman is hauling logs to the mill for lumber. Noah Wenriek is visiting his son George near Rensselaer. Mrs. C. B. Scott spent Sunday at Mrs. F. M. Garrett’s. A. P. Huntington is loading a car with wood for Chicago. Mr- and Mrs. A. P. Huntington visited with his cousin, Mrs. Hilliard, in Wheatfield over the weekend. John Salrln visited his cousins, Estle and Orville Meyers, over Sunday. ’ Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tomilson visited iris mother, Mrs. J. J. Tomilson, Tuesday. Revs. Amstutz and Onyer of Wheatfield have been cutting wood for F. M. Lilly the past week. F. M. Lilly and son Lester were business callers at Kniman Saturday * Mrs. F.'M.
