THOSE “DISCLOSURES”

The Republican campaign ot "disclosures” is dying a natural death. Highly sensational canards have been sent flying about for the past year. Finding fault has become a habit with them until they are now finding fault with themselves. They have run the whole gamut from personal libel to treacherous scanJal. No cause has been too sacred; no personal relation too tender to escape their shafts. They have even waved the American flag in one or two instances above their own efforts to drag It down. And now “the cat is dying.” They are finding that the Democrats cleaned theit house before, during and after the war. The Republicans were invited to discover something that had not been made known already through

the Democratic policy of pitiless (publicity. No great scandals have /been uncovered. Being “brutally frank,” is a hard matter when one Is trying to accomplish a big job, because it invites criticism, but the Republicans are beginning to discover that the Democratic administration has been so open with the people that their campaign of “discoveries’’ is useless. Consequently, a campaign of vituperation which has already begun, was not unexpected. Congress was right and the president was wrong. At least once congress was right. Nearly three months ago the president asked congress to refrain from its self-granted vacation and remain on the job to put through legislation designed to lower the high living cost. The president even went to the point of addressing congress, telling it some of thi measures that had suggested themselves Jo him as a possible preventive program. At that time leaders of congress declared it was useless for congress to remain in session to combat the living cost. Since then the attorney general, with what weapons he has been able to gather, has waged a bitter war against the profiteer that is now showing some results. But, as the partisan leaders of congress said, “it was useless for congress to remain in session.” They have proved they were right and the president-was wrong. There really was no use. Maybe congress wants the living cost to stay where it is. Most likely the Republican party, in spite of its protests of re-birth, is still catering to the interests.
