PEOPLE ASK TREATY ACTION
Many petitions signed by both men and women, that urge an early ratification of the league of nations, with or without are being received by the United States senate. Several of the petitions emphasize the need for prompt action and express disapproval of any unnecessary delay. One of these petitions is from Wayland, Mass. It voices the same sentiment found in many other petitions. It reads as follows: respectfully urge upon your honorable body the supreme importance for United States of America and for the whole world of prompt ratification of the covenant of the league of nations. “It may not be perfect any more than the constitution of the United States was perfect, but we believe that it will be the beginning <nf a better era for the world, as the constitution was for this country. Dike that, it can be amended, if necessary ;• but if rejected now we fear so good an opportunity to preserve peace in the world may not return in our lifetime.” This petition came down from a state represented In the senate by Senator Walsh, Democrat, and Senator Lodge, Republican, both outspoken critics^of the* league.—lndianapolis Star Bureau, Room 45, Post Building, Washington, D. C.
