STRIKE SPREADS IN CHICAGO
•,000 Mere Harvester Employees Quit —IO,OOO Locked Out. Chicago, July 18.—The strike of the 10,000 men of the International Harvester company of the reaper and twine planta-was augmented by 6,000 more workmen of the same union who walked out of the Deering works and the Illinois Malleable Iron works. Three thousand of the men left the Deering works, which is a branch of {he harvester company, at 1734 Fullerton avenue, and at the same time 8,000 men walked out of the other plant, which 1s directly across the street. Approximately 16,000 men are now on strike against the harvester company. It is said, however, that 10,000 have been locked out and will not be allowed to return to work, All the men out are demanding a ••union shop” and increases in . wages.
