Young Walstra left Rensselaer with the-bunch of boys leaving for Camp Taylor Sept. 20 ; 1917. He was later transferred to Camp Shelby to the 152 d infantry and went overseas last July. Soon after landing in Liverpool he was put on military police duty and served in thia capacity most of the time he was over there, in both London and Paris. He came very near being killed in a mix-up with some rough-necks in Paris when a shot fired at him cut his belt in two at his right hip. He took a few days "lay-off” on one occasion and went over to Spain. He sailed from Bordeaux, France, and arrived at Newport News, Ya., July 4; was soon after transferred to Camp Taylor, where he received his discharge 7 Tuesday evening, starting immediately for home. While not on the actual fighting front, he had lots of Interesting experiences, but was glad to get back to God’s country and home.
