The striking apparatus of the court house clock has been out of commission for over six weeks, but Janitor Morlan received some repairs this week and is endeavoring to get the clock into a striking mood again. Kuppers, which was tried last week in the Newton circuit court and defendant found guilty of assault and battery on the person of Robert Grimm of Newland, and fined |SO and costs, has been appealed to the higher court by the defendant. Williams ditch case, J. R. Deardurff appointed drainage commissioner in charge and ordered to proceed 'with the construction of said work. A. Halleck allowed $2,500 as partial attorney fees.
